Yvonne Thompson Bates
Yvonne Thompson Bates was born on November 20, 1942, to Dosha Bates and David Thompson, Sr. in Liberty, MS. She was a member of Liberty Baptist Church where she accepted Christ at an early age. She was the loving mother of three children: Curtis Burnett Bates III., Michael Bates, Sr., and Valerie Laverne Wallace. She was preceded in death by her mother, Dosha, her father David, her son, Curtis, her brother David L. Thompson Jr., her stepmother, Vivian Neil Thompson, and her sister Juanita Taplin.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her children: Michael (Pamela), and Laverne. Her sisters: Mary Powell, Gloria Johnson, Nathalie Thompson, Gwendolyn Shepherd (Stanley), her brothers: Oliver Thompson (Dorothy), James W. (Teresa), Conway (Jerlisa), Cleveland A. (Bernice), and Glen A. (Joan) her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and life-long friends she made on her 79 year journey.
Yvonne lived a life filled with exercising empathy and compassion for others no matter their background or their perceived shortcomings. In her eyes, every person she encountered was a child of God, and she would treat them with the utmost respect and help in any way she could. She was an asset to any community she inhabited and often fed, clothed, and housed not only relatives, but friends and the family members of those said friends, no matter what age they were. She had a firm belief that your good works done on earth enable you to walk confidently knowing your place in heaven is reserved. Approaching every situation in life with humility and understanding was her specialty, other than the delicious meals she prepared. She was Mama, Ms. Bates, Black, Rabbit, Auntie, Gram, and Grandma to all that knew her. She was simply a servant of the Lord in her own eyes. She leaves behind not only her family members and friends, but a blueprint as she makes her transition: Live life with love. Keep God as the centerpiece of all that you do, and the map found with that blueprint will lead you to where she now resides when the Lord decides it is time.
