Yael Katrina Washington
March 29, 1971 - June 27, 2026
Yael Katrina Washington passed away on June 27, 2026. She was lovingly known as "Ya," a name that reflected the warmth and love she shared with so many. To her nieces and nephews, however, she was simply “Pearline,” a name spoken with deep affection and cherished memories. Yael was born March 29, 1971, in New Orleans, Louisiana, to the late Oscar Washington, Jr. and Julia Mathilda Irons Washington.
She was reared in the Hollygrove community and educated in the Orleans Parish School System, attending Paul Laurence Dunbar Elementary School and Sophie Bell Wright Middle School. She completed her education at L.E. Rabouin Vocational High School, graduating in 1990.
Yael entered the workforce shortly after high school, beginning at McCrory on Canal Street. She discovered a passion for retail, working in various departments from customer service to shipping and receiving. However, Yael found her niche as a Sanitation Specialist, prompting her to start her own business, Shine Bright, LLC. While managing her business, she also worked at the New Orleans Public Library, serving the Loyola and Norman Mayer locations. She was a faithful member of New Home Family Worship Center and was known by family and friends for her warm spirit and love for others.
She is survived by her children: Mario Ashley Marshall, Jr. and Paige Ashley Washington; one grandchild, Mylah Monique Marshall; siblings, Oscar Wasington, III (Paula), Octavia Scott (Timothy), Larissa Pierce (Marcus), Jason Washington, and LaCresha Washington, along with a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, relatives, friends, church members and former coworkers who will miss her dearly.
She is preceded in death by the following siblings: Selby Irons Washington, Sr. and Mark Washington.
Relatives and friends of the family, Pastors, officers, members of New Home Family Worship Center and all neighboring Churches are invited to the Celebration of Life Services at 10:00am on Saturday, July 11, 2026 at New Home Family Worship Center, 13800 Hayne Blvd, New Orleans, LA 70128. Visitation 9:00am until the time of service at the above-named Church. Interment will be private. Final Arrangements entrusted to Patrick H. Sanders Funeral Home & Funeral Directors, LLC. 605 Main Street, Laplace, LA 70068. 985-359-1919. “Providing Care & Comfort is Our Highest Mission.”
