With faith-filled courage, and wife and son by his side, Wilbert Joseph Johnson entered eternal rest on Monday, July 17, 2023. Wilbert was born on May 29, 1969 to the late Yvonne Johnson Lumar Thomas, and Joseph Favorite Sr. He is also preceded in death by his Maternal and Paternal grandparents. His siblings Celestine Jasmin, and Vincent Favorite. Mother in-Law, Willie Mae Raymond, Beloved Uncles and Aunt. He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife Genevieve Curley Johnson, children Deabreon Lewis, Leonardo Curley (Mikeisha), Rufaro Curley (Michelle), Victor Curley (Sachie), and Kereck Curley. Grandchildren Cori, Carter, Devyn, Ambriel, Devontae, -Jarius, Tida, Victor, Jakirri, Quernardo, Javione, Kereck Jr., Kerigan, great-grandchildren Wale, William, Devontae Jr., My'liyah, Davon, brothers Rodney Johnson (Dolly), Reginald Lumar (Marsha), Nathaniel Johnson (Laurinetta), Sterling Lumar, Howard Lumar (Jessie), sisters Rhonda Huskey, Janeffier Johnson, and Jacquelyn Campbell. Stepsiblings Joseph Jr., Joyce, Karen, Ann, Elizabeth, Dwayne, Kevin, Kanthy Favorite, Glenn Lewis, Audrey Pablo, Catherine Robiskie, Mary Williams, and Linda Dangerfield. Father-in-law Joseph Curley, Sister in-law Janie Williams, Effie, Kelson, Linda Nelson (Ricky), Brother-in-Law Anthony Raymond. Aunts Bernadette Tassin, Brenda Harper, Gloria Mae Tate, Rita Mae Johnson, Uncle Lester Simmons Sr., Goddaughter Joquanda Jolly, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Wilbert was a native of Edgard LA, and a resident of Laplace, LA. He was baptized at New Rescue Mission Baptist Church by Rev. Devin Mason. He was employed by Quality Labor Solutions at ADM Grain Elevator Reserve, LA. When Wilbert wasn’t working, you could find him enjoying quality time with his wife and family. Wilbert loved watching football, especially the Dallas Cowboys whom he was a dedicated fan of. Wilbert Johnson led a life of devotion to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and was a devoted husband, father, brother and friend. He enjoyed being with his family and leaves a legacy of loyalty to his loving family. "Billy", as he was more familiarly known as, will always be remembered for his love for his wife, family, and Cowboys. "
Relatives and friends of the family, Pastors, Officers and Members of New Rescue Mission Baptist Church, all neighboring churches and West St. John High Class of 1989 are invited to a Celebration of Life Service on Saturday, July 29, 2023 at 11:00am at New Rescue Mission Baptist Church, 316 E. 14th Street, Reserve, LA 70084.
