Walter Earl Barnes, Sr.
1962 - 2026
Walter Earl Barnes, Sr. was called home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at Ochsner Medical Center Jefferson Highway. He was the devoted husband of Deloris Craft Barnes for 43 years. Walter was a loving and devoted father to Nigeal, Walter, Jr. (LaShanda), Keron Barnes, Eric McCalpin and the caring and devoted Grandfather of NyJae Barnes.
Walter was born on August 16, 1962 to the late Rev. Dr. Gilbert L., Sr., and Jannie Odoms Barnes. He was the brother of Shirley, Gilbert E. (Ravelynn), Barbara Barnes, Sharon B. (Estus) Walker and Detrice (Don) Mitchell. and the late Hardy Barnes and Doris Elaine B. Haten. Son-in-law of the late Wallace, Sr., and Josie Stamps Craft. Brother-In-Law: Wallace, Jr., Keron (Selrahc) Craft, Ernest O'Quinn and the late Leonard Craft, Sr. Godfather of Fredreka Frazier, and Nolan Neely. Uncle of the late Reginald Barnes. Also survived by a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. A native of Carlisle, MS and a longtime resident of Marrero, LA., age 63
Illustrious Walter E. Barnes, Sr., 32nd Degree, was a distinguished and devoted member of the Masonic Community. He served as Past Grand Treasurer of the United Most Worship King George Lodge of the State of Louisiana and as Past Worship Master of Good Luck Lodge No.17.
His commitment to the craft extended across several esteemed bodies, including Moses Royal Arch Chapter No. 2, Judas Commandery No. 2, Alma Grand Consistory and St. John No.5 Temple of the Ancient Arabic Order of the Nobles of the Mystic Shrine.
Illustrious Barnes was known for his leadership, dedication, and unwavering service, leaving a lasting legacy within the fraternity and all who had the honor of knowing him.
Relatives and friends of the family, also Pastors, Officers and Members of Rock of Ages Missionary Baptist Church and all neighboring churches, Employee of Common Ground Health Clinic, D.O.T.D., Faculty, Staff and Students of Edna Karr School and Thomas Jefferson Academy for Advanced Studies, Members of United Most Worshipful King George Grand Lodge of the State of Louisiana, Good Lodge No.17, Moses Royal Arch Chapter No2., Judas Commandery No.2, St. John No.5 Temple of Ancient Arabic Order of the Nobles of the Mystic Shrine, Queen Vashti Grand Chapter of the Order of Eastern Stars , Former employees of Avondale and Bollinger (Gretna) Shipyard are invited to attend Funeral Services at 10:00am on Saturday, April 4, 2025 at Rock Of Ages Missionary Baptist Church, 6533 Acre Rd. Marrero, LA. Pastor Terrence A. Ranson Officiating. Visitation will begin at 8:00am until the time of Service at the above-named Church. Masonic Rites and Ritual will begin at 9:15am.
