Timothy Green Obituary

The Life Story of Timothy “Tim “Green

January 10, 1948 – July 29, 2022

Tim’s journey began in New Orleans, LA on January 10, 1948 when the late Edward and Leona Johnson Green Sr. gave birth to their blessing from GOD, Timothy Green. Tim was affectionally known as “Gesh” and “Phil.” Tim shared his earlier years with his large family that included his siblings: Edward Jr, David, Paul, James, Alex, Marion, Gladys, Carrie, George, and Aritha. As he grew older, Tim often reflected and cherished the childhood memories he had with his parents and siblings as a young boy. Tim would frequently share these memories with others and whoever was listening would erupt with laughter. Tim loved to make others laugh.

Tim accepted Christ at an early age. He was baptized at Mt. Zion Baptist church in Boutte, LA by his uncle Rev. Albert Green Sr. Tim developed a strong Christian foundation during his childhood. Tim loved to sing hymns. However, it sounded like he was at the opera whenever he sung. Later in life, Tim transitioned his religion to the Catholic Faith. Although his religion changed, his heart and love for the Baptist faith could not be removed from him. Every now and then he would go back to visit and would try to out sing the choir. Tim would always smile from ear to ear whenever he walked into a Baptist church no matter the occasion.

Tim was educated in the St. Charles Parish School System. He graduated from Carver High School in Hahnville, LA. As a teenager, he worked at Majorie’s in Boutte, LA. After his teenage years, he was employed at Union Carbide (Paxair) in Hahnville, LA. Later in life, he worked for River Parish Maintenance at ADM in Ama, LA. He retired in 2005. Tim would keep in close contact and visit his former coworkers often.

Tim met the love of his life Monna Smith Green and entered holy matrimony on June 7, 1985. Tim and Monna loved each other unconditionally for over 37 years. Tim loved to make Monna fuss so he could fall to the floor laughing and say, “Look that Mann. What’s wrong with that Mann.” Tim loved for his wife to cook big meals so family could gather for fun, food, and laughter. He loved to dance and sing with Monna. Tim was blessed with four children: Timothy, Erica, Marlon, Morisa, and a bonus son Christopher Favors. GOD continued to shower the family with love with two sons-in-law and one daughter-in-law: Edwin Sr., Derrell, Tyreice.

Later Tim’s family grew with grandchildren. His grandchildren are: Ashley (Trevor) Moore, Latasha (Maurice) Foster, Lyman Jr., Jonathan, Edwin Jr., Brandon, Tatyana, Travis, Rae’Kwon, Myrielle, Marlon, Joshua” Cheesy,” Tylon, extended grandchildren ZyKai, Bernard, Raven and Kimberly and nine great-children. Tim loved his children and grandchildren dearly and when he spoke of them, his face would light up. Tim had a smile that was priceless. He was extremely proud of all his “Papa Gesh” babies. If you were to ask him if he had a favorite grandchild, he would say that he did not. However, we all knew Bigmann and Myrielle were given just a tad bit of extra love.

Tim’s wife, children, grandchildren, and great- grandchildren was not the only joy of his life. He was an over-the-top uncle as well. There are too many to name but they all held a special place in Tim’s life. He loved his nieces and nephews as his own and would support any and everything they had going on in their life. He often thought as if he was their age. He tried his best to keep up with them.

Tim enjoyed spending time with his family. He loved to be around them while eating seafood and watching a football game. Many of them would roll with him every Friday to Hahnville’s football games. He was a die-hard HHS Tigers Fan. They would be the only people sitting and waiting in the stadium at 5:00 pm while the game started at 7:00pm. At some point, a few of them have lived with him and his wife. That was some of the best times for Tim. He had many great times with his in-laws. He would love when they came over for holidays and Sunday dinner. He would tell Monna hide him some crawfish bisque in the room because Tuttie will take all the food home. He found joy being around them. In his last days, Bum Bum would sneak him a beer or two. He would say “Yea, Yaa Right Bum” and then proceed to laugh.

Tim will be remembered for many things: being the life of the party, a daily lottery player (known to say “Buy me one Biggie”) and a foodie. But most importantly, his outrageous vocabulary that he used on a regular basis will always be remembered by his loved ones. His favorite sayings were: “Babe Ruth,” “Wowwuuu,” “Bunkie on a 45”, and “Yea Yaa Right, Stick Dynamite”, and “Minktified”.

Life’s purpose was fulfilled, and the journey was completed on July 29, 2022 when Tim, at the age of 74 years old, peacefully entered eternal life with his Lord and Savior. Jesus Christ. Tim was greeted and escorted through the gates of heaven by his parents Edward and Leona Green Sr., his in laws Jessel and Eunice Smith, his siblings Paul, George, Edward Jr., James, Aritha Green, Carrie Scott, his sisters -in -law and brothers -in-laws, Gail Comminie, Stella Green, Felix Dumas, Jessel “Bosco” Smith Jr., Henderson Scott, Bobby Simmons, and Ray Mack.
