Terrence Major Obituary

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;   in all your ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct your paths.  Proverbs 3:5-6

Terrence "Terry" Lee Major departed this life on Thursday, May 19, 2022 at 3:01pm surrounded by his family at Ochsner Medical Center in New Orleans, Louisiana. He was born on May 8, 1969 at Charity Hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana to the union of Lawrence Major Sr. and Verna Ann Young Major. Terrence was baptized at the age 6 at Antioch Baptist Church of Des Allemands, Louisiana by the late Rev. Ernest Williams, where he received his Christian foundation. He absolutely loved the Lord. Terrence graduated from Hahnville High School in 1988. After graduation, he went directly into the workforce. His first job was at Waterford 3 in Killona, Louisiana where he worked for a contractor. After leaving Waterford 3, he became employed by St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office as a Sheriff Deputy then later becoming a Detective. He also worked at Carter Chambers now known as Set Point in Luling, Louisiana as a Certified Safety Relief Valve Technician. His final job was at Bayer (formally known as Monsanto) in Luling Louisiana as a Senior Technician. Terrence became a Mason in his early twenties as a member of the Jeremiah Lodge #8 in Raceland, Louisiana.

Terrence was the enormously proud father of four girls Tylin Renee (Gary Hilton, Jr.), Destyni D'Shaun, Indya Ta'Leigh, and Trea'Jour Rayne, three bonus children Khylen, Ka’Layah and Khaide and one grandson Gary Hilton III. He was a devoted and loving father & grandfather and his children bought him pure joy. He departed this earth knowing that he had raised strong and independent children and that even in his absence they would always know two things, they were always loved and cared for. Terrence began his new life with his soon to be wife Rachell. In just 4 years, they created beautiful lasting memories and enjoyed every moment that God blessed them to have together. They were soulmates, lifetime partners as well as best friends. He would often say to her “I have found the One whom my soul loves” (Song of Solomon 3:4). The love, joy, and peace he found in her was only surpassed by the love of his Heavenly Father.

Terrence and Rachell were avid Saints fans and they loved traveling and being with family and friends. It was nothing for them to hit the road rather it was a weekend drive in their Sling Shot or catching a flight to continue to create beautiful lasting memories. During his hospitalization, Rachell was by his side for 73 days. Her faith, love and commitment never wavered. She took care of him until his end. Terrance was blessed to have Rachell not only as a best friend and partner in life, but he was blessed to have found a wife in her.

Those left to cherish his precious memories are his parents Lawrence Major, Sr. and Verna Ann Young Major, his wife Rachell, five daughters Tylin Renee (Gary Hilton Jr.), Destyni D'Shaun, Indya Ta'Leigh, Trea'Jour Rayne and Ka’Layah Sydnee-Rayelle Sorapuru, two sons Khylen K’Ron Sorapuru and Khaide Khaison Gales & one grandson Gary Mason Hilton III, four siblings Lawrence Major, Jr., Troy Lee Major (Giovanni), Bridget Major, and Bryce Laver Major (Lyn), two Godchildren Derrick Myles and James Ingram, Jr., and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Terrence was preceded in death by one brother Gregory Major, his maternal grandparents Earl Young, Sr., and Elizabeth Burgens Young, paternal grandparent Oliska Burch and Ernest Smith and Godfather Michael Hill.
