Terell Phipps Obituary

Terell Lemoine Phipps

1973 - 2023

“I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live” - John 11:25

On November 27, 1973, God bless Mary L. Hymes and the late Timothy Phipps, Sr. with a son they named Terell Lemoine Phipps.  For 49 years, Terell blessed so many lives before he entered into eternal rest on November 23, 2023.

Affectionately known as “Tee”, Terell was quiet, compassionate, protective, and one of the smartest persons you could ever meet.  Once you developed a friendship with him, you had a “friend for life”.  Within the family, he was the patriarch among “his crew”.  Even though he played football in his younger years, he was a big critic of game.  That trait carried into his friendships because he acted like “everyone’s dad”.

Terell was educated in the Jefferson Parish School System.  He found interest in transportation and decided to get his CDL.  He enrolled at Reyna Driving School of San Antonio, Texas.  Once receiving his license, he gained experience through various companies.  But after working for Starr Transportation and Trimac Transportation, Terell decided to become a business owner and started TP Express.  For the past 3 years, Terell traveled through the country touching lives every where he went.

So many stories can be told about Terell.  Spending time with family and friends was just as important to him as working.  He had an unmeasurable amount of love for his family.

Terell’s memories will be forever cherished by his wife of 16 years – Tonya; his sons – Justin (Quiannah), Kameron (Carolina), D’anta, and Denim Darensbourg; grandchildren (his heart) – Aryah and JaKaie Darensbourg; his mother – Mary Louise Hymes (Carl Banks); his sister – Lenore “Missy” (Cornelius) Johnson; his brothers – Anthony (Courtney) and Antonio (Tenesha) Irvin; his nieces (his pride and joy) – Areion, A’Nija, Tajé, and Layla Phipps; mother-in-law – Diane Perrilloux; brothers and sisters-in-law – Malcolm (Latonya) and Kammi Darensbourg, Dustin, Koriano (Veronica), Briney, Dominick and A’Joya Perrilloux; grandfather – Alexander Hymes, Sr; aunts – Brenda Scott, Ivory Smith, Gwendolyn Tally, Claudette and Charlonda Hymes, Ella Webber, and Catherine P. Gordon; uncles – Alexander Hymes Jr, Lloyd Phipps, and Kevin Gordon; great aunts – Katherine Garrison, Ella Ruth Harris, and Queen Ester Burns; great uncles – James and Melvin Jones; and a host of family, friends, and other relatives.

Terell was preceded in death by his father – Timothy Sr; brothers – Timothy “Squirrel” Phipps Jr and Frank “Button” Scott III; father-in-law – Burnell Perrilloux Sr. grandparents – Odessa Hymes, Lois “Lloyd” T and Gladys Phipps; aunts and uncles – Mary “Bunny” Webber, Audrey “Rabbit” Young, Lonnie Hymes and Fred C Scott; cousins – Jerry and Dewayne Scott and Issac (Tuffy) Tally.
