Stanley Baxter Obituary
Stanley Baxter
1957 - 2026
Stanley “Snake” Baxter entered eternal rest on January 26, 2026, at the age of 68. He was born on April 15, 1957, and raised in New Orleans, a city that shaped his spirit and forever held his heart.
Stanley was the beloved son of the late James and Mary Louise Smith Baxter. Known affectionately as “Snake,” he was a familiar presence—steady, memorable, and deeply rooted in family and the Algiers community. His name carried stories, laughter, and a legacy that lives on in the people who knew him best.
A hardworking man, Stanley dedicated many years of service to Metropolitan Furniture Store, where he was known for his dependability, strong work ethic, and pride in an honest day’s work. He carried that same consistency and loyalty into every part of his life.
Stanley found peace with a fishing line in the water and joy in the company of his brothers. Whether by the river, the lake, or beneath an open sky filled with laughter and long stories, those moments—simple and sacred—were where his soul felt most at home.
Stanley was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, James Baxter Jr.; his sisters, Mildred Butler and Mabel Cooper; his nephew, Anthony Davis; his niece, Yuvoncka Singleton; and his beloved granddaughter, Tamia Gabrielle Encalade.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his siblings: Eugene Baxter (Elaine), Gloria Gabriel, Robert Baxter (late Francis), Emelda Thomas (late Waddie), Sara Stipes (Willie), Patricia Polk (Johnny), Phillip Baxter (Shirley), Terry Baxter, Perry Baxter, Dale Baxter (Jennifer).
His beloved children also survive him, Big Stanley Tucker (Twain), Shantel Thomas (Terrence), and Stanlene, grandchildren, great-grandchildren along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will forever hold him close in their hearts.
Stanley “Snake” Baxter will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered—his spirit living on in the waters he fished, the stories he shared, and the family bonds he cherished.
