Sophie B. Williams Mitchell was called home to glory from this earthly life on Monday, March 17, 2025, with family at her bedside. She was born on October 16, 1946, to the late Lafayette and Eva Etienne Williams. She was the fourth child of the family. As a child she lived and attended church and school in New Orleans. She was baptized at an early age. She was a proud graduate of Booker T. Washington High School in New Orleans, Louisiana. On February 19, 1966, Sophie married Cleveland Mitchell and from this union she was blessed with four children: the late Wayne C. Mitchell, Darlene E. Mitchell-Green, Cleveland A. Mitchell, Jr. and Shantrell M. Mitchell. Sophie was loved by her community and was known as a second mother too many on 29th Street. She enjoyed going to church, sewing, cooking, dancing, bingo and going to the casino with her friends (road dawgs). Sophie had a big heart, and she loved people. She worked various jobs such as housekeeping and babysitting until she became ill.


She was preceded in death by her son, Wayne C. Mitchell and husband, Cleveland Mitchell, Sr.


She leaves behind a family that will forever cherish her memory: her children, Darlene Mitchell-Green (CarMicheal), Cleveland Mitchell, Jr. (Rose) and Shantrell Mitchell; her precious grandchildren; DeShondra Mitchell-Dropthmore, Kyle Mitchell, D’yonta Mitchell, Kenwan Moore, Dajanae Green, Mya Mitchell, Kayla Green, Christopher Anderson; two great grandchildren, Brandon Dropthmore, Jr. and Braxton Dropthmore , four godchildren; Beverly Borne, Gretchen Hudson, Lakeisha Morris Colvon and Jade Lynn Narcisse host of aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends who will miss her deeply.


Relatives and friends of the family, Pastors, Officers and Members of Providence #2 Baptist Church and all neighboring Churches are invited to a Celebration of Life Service at 11:00am on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at Providence #2 Baptist Church, 17294 River Rd, Montz, LA  70068. Rev. Vernell Braud, Officiant. Visitation 9:00am until service time at the above-named Church. Interment St. John Memorial Gardens, 2205 W. Airline Hwy, Laplace, LA 70068. Final Arrangements Entrusted to Patrick H. Sanders Funeral Home & Funeral Directors, LLC. ,605 Main Street, Laplace, LA 70068.  985-359-1919. “Providing Care & Comfort is Our Highest Mission.”


There will also be a visitation, on Friday, March 28, 2025, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at the Patrick H. Sanders Funeral Home, 605 Main Street, Laplace, LA 70068.
