Simon Othmar Niehaus, a proud veteran, devoted husband, and beloved father and grandfather, passed away peacefully on May 3, 2025, at the age of 92. He was born on October 13, 1932, in Ponchatoula, Louisiana, to Magdalena Zellner Niehaus and Henry Niehaus.
Simon served honorably in the United States Air Force, exemplifying a lifelong dedication to his country. After his military service, he began a long and successful career with Lockheed, where he worked for 25 years as a Quality Control Avionics Inspector until his retirement. His precision, reliability, and commitment to excellence earned him the respect of colleagues and peers alike.
Simon is survived by his loving wife, Ida Niehaus of Lynn Haven, Florida; his former wife, Pat Myers; his daughters, Sophia Niehaus and Lena Lavine (Harry); and his grandchildren: Brandi Clayton (JW), Kristi Butenhoff, Ami Weese, Christina Mahen (Alan), Kellie McBunch, Louis “Rudy” Wagner IV, Hunter Lavine, and Parker Lavine. He will be remembered for his steadfast character, generous spirit, and deep love for his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; infant sons, Michael Andrew, and Richard Clark; his daughter, Sherri Butenhoff (Richard); his grandchildren, Joseph Richardson, and Nikki Weese; and his former wife, Keiko Niehaus.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Millside Restaurant, 810 SW Railroad Ave, Ponchatoula, LA 70454. All are invited to attend and join the family in honoring Simon's life and legacy. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Simon’s memory to the Veterans Administration, in honor of his service and steadfast support of fellow veterans.
