Shirley Mae Jones Jackson transitioned to her heavenly home on Friday, June 26, 2026.
She was a graduate of L.B. Landy High School Class of 1970. She was known for her love for outdoors, babies, Church (Second Baptist) and had a weird sense of humor.
Shirley was one of the Charter Members of the New Orleans Marriott Hotel. One of the few individuals who participated in the Original Grand opening of the Hotel, where she stayed employed for 41 years.
She was the mother of Tina & August, Jr. (Tatanisha) Jackson and grandmother of Aniya Gage & Asia Jackson. Godmother of Donnie Washington, Jennifer Cose and the late Davon Mosley. Forever friend of Mary McDonald, Elver McGinnis, Brenda Pugh and Linda Taylor.
Shirley was the sister of Ethel Washington, Claudell Williams (Joseph), Darryl (Maryann), Shedrick (Judy) Jones, the late Eleanora Cosse, Melvin Jones, Jr., Patrick Martin and Maxine Cotton. Sister-in-law of Roy Jackson (Elaine) and Richard Smith (Shawn).
She was preceded in death by her husband August Jackson, Sr., her parents Melvin, Sr., and Eliza Felo Jones; Sisters-in-law Barbara Jones, Betty Jeann Thomas, Mary Ann Carter and Heddie Byes; Brother-in-law Warren Washington and Sneobia Byes.
Also survived by host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. A native and lifelong resident of Algiers (Cutoff Community), Louisiana.
