Ronald James Dorsey Obituary

Ronald James Dorsey

1954 - 2024

On Sunday, the 13th of October, God saw that Ronald James Dorsey’s body was failing him and that he needed the rest that only He could provide; at 4:45 pm. God gave our dear brother a spiritual healing and gently carried him home.

On September 1, 1954, in New Orleans, LA, the Lord blessed Lillian Williams and Eddie Dorsey, Sr. with a son: Ronald James Dorsey. He was welcomed by two other siblings, Eddie Dorsey, Jr. and Sharonett Dorsey.

Bro. Ronald learned early about sacrifice on the cross; hence, he professed his faith and chose to be baptized. He later joined Rhema Fellowship Christian Center in Luling, LA, and eventually Mt. Airy Baptist Church.

Always a hardworking man, he accepted a position as a merchant marine with Otto Candies in Des Allemands, LA, where he worked until health complications prevented him from safely doing so.  Not one to dwell much on his early years, if Ronald were still here, he would tell you that his life truly began on May 19, 1990, when he met and married the love of his life, Elizabeth Ann Alexander, whom he affectionately called Bernice or Bae. While he had no kids of his own, this union provided him with three stepchildren: Sterling and Shantrelle LaBranch, and Tarik Flot.  With a family unit now in place to help provide for, Bro. Dorsey dutifully worked alongside his wife in the operation of her food trucks that catered to the community and plant workers within St. Charles Parish and nearby areas.

As he began to fight against various ailments that attacked his body, he trusted in God and remained positive, never complaining. On his good days, he would entertain his grandkids by giving them joyrides in his wheelchair and played very competitive cards games with his wife, or anyone who dared to challenge him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, parents-in-law, Willie, and Angeline Alexander; both of his siblings; two sisters-in-law, Irma, and Leotha Alexander; and four brothers-in-law, Richard, Willie, Jr., Allen, Sr., and Tobe Alexander.

Bro. Dorsey leaves to cherish his life’s journey, his ever-present and supportive wife, Elizabeth; three stepchildren, Sterling LaBranch, Shantrelle (Pernall) Nash, and Tarik Flot, Sr.; eighteen grandchildren, Jamal Smith, Shatece, Ciara, and Troylynn LaBranch, Makayla Duncan, Sterling LaBranch, Jr., and Gabriel Anthony; Anthony, Aaron, and Ashanti Mott, Paige Nash, and Alajah Young; Toriel and Toryan Flot, Tori Boyd, Tarik, Jr., Teyahn, Tavon, and Tayah Flot; 10 great-grandchildren; two brothers-in-law, Walter (Alta) Alexander, Tulsa OK, and Nelson (Mary) Alexander, Luling, LA; one aunt-in-law, Ella Mae Murray, and other relatives and friends.

The family and friends held a Memorial Celebration of Life Service on Saturday, October 19, 2024, at Mt. Airy Memorial Park Cemetery. Pastor Clyde J. Staes-Officiant. Final Arrangements Entrusted to Patrick H. Sanders Funeral Home & Funeral Directors, LLC. 605 Main Street, Laplace, LA 70068. 985-359-1919. “Providing Care & Comfort is Our Highest Mission.”
