Obituary

Robert Hensley

Alpha: February 14, 1947     Omega: February 19, 2023

The Lord called Robert to his new, heavenly home on February 19th, 2023. Robert Hensley was born on February 14th, 1947, in St. James, Louisiana, to the late Boston Hensley and Dorothy Smith Hensley.

Robert attended Burton Lane Elementary School in St. James, LA and graduated from Carver High School in Hahnville, LA. He worked for many years at Avondale Ship Yard and then went on to work as a painter for St. Charles Parish School System where he retired.

In the mid 90's, Robert accepted Jesus Christ at New Hope Baptist Church, in New Orleans, LA and was baptized by the late Rev. John C. Raphael, Jr. When Robert moved back home to Ama, he immediately moved his membership to Mt. Zion Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Pastor Kendall Pierre, Sr.

Robert was such a friendly, loving and helpful man. He was "Uncle Robbie" to his nieces & nephews. Everyone loved him. He was polite and greeted all ladies with a bow, whether you were family or a friend, and called them all "senorita."

For years Robert was the pitcher for the Ama baseball team. He also loved to dance in his younger days. He mastered Michael Jackson's Moonwalk and would often show off his skills at family or friend's gatherings. This earned him the nickname "Cookaracha" because his feet moved so fast that it looked like he had many feet. Everyone encouraged him to dance. Robert was also a big football fan. He loved those New Orleans SAINTS and was a big fan of Tulane University football as well.

He leaves to cherish his beloved daughter Shontrease M. Bradley & son-in-love Fountainette Bradley. His brothers Joseph Hensley, Sr. and Leroy Hensley, Sr. His sisters Ellen H. Weber (Richard, Sr.), Lois Hensley and Gerald Ann Hensley and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents Boston and Dorothy Hensley.

His joyful spirit will stay in our hearts and be remembered forever.
