Raymond Mason Obituary

The Life of Raymond Mason

“For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.” Philippians 1:21

Raymond Mason entered this world on March 11, 1947, in LaPlace, Louisiana, born to the late Peter “Pierre” Mason, Sr. and the late Henrietta Green. He peacefully transitioned to be with the Lord on January 16, 2024, at his home, surrounded by love.

A graduate of Fifth Ward High School in 1966, Raymond answered the call of duty and served as a Logistics Specialist in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, earning an honorable discharge on July 19, 1968. His career journey led him through the Godchaux Sugar Refinery until its closure in 1985, and subsequently, he contributed his skills as a Pico Operator at Cargill, Inc. until his well-deserved retirement.

Raymond's union with the love of his life, the late Geraldine Thomas Mason, took place on November 7, 1972. Together, they built a family that includes his children Raydell, Dayna, Damon Mason and the late Radiena Mason, along with stepson John Grant.

He found solace in his faith, hearing God's voice and surrendering his life at Beachgrove Baptist Church in Reserve, LA under the guidance and leadership of the late Rev. Wesley Anderson, Sr. Later, he became a member of Destiny Christian Center, led by Pastor Steve O. Allen.

Raymond was not known for his verbosity, but his actions spoke volumes. Raymond's commitment to his family was unwavering, and he demonstrated his love through meaningful visits and ensuring that his children were deeply connected to their roots. In the community, he earned a reputation for being a strict and disciplined individual, especially when it came to the Mason and Green family.

Raymond's approach was no-nonsense; he believed in leading by example. Though he may not have been one to express himself through many words, the impact of his actions resonated profoundly. In the eyes of those who knew him, it was clear that he held high expectations for the Mason kids, and his influence reached them no matter where they were.

He leaves behind a cherished and devoted family, a testament to the love and memories he created. Among his loving children are Raydell (TaQuana) Mason, Sr. of LaPlace, LA, Dayna (Chadwick) James, Sr. of LaPlace, LA, and Damon (Tanya) Mason of Conyers, GA. His legacy extends to nine grandchildren: Demario Perrilloux, Raydell Mason, Jr., Tahj Arinze, Daysha Blount, Dominique James, Chadwick James, Jr., Destinee James, Collin, and Caleb Mason.

In addition to his immediate family, Raymond is survived by two sisters, Audrey Grover and Joean Mason of Reserve, LA, and four brothers: Alexander (Veronica) of Reserve, LA, Henry (Yvonne) of LaPlace, LA, Royal of LaPlace, LA, and Wilfred (Waddie) of Mobile, AL. The family network includes sisters-in-law Gloria Branch of Reserve, LA, and Glythina Batiste of Metairie, LA, as well as brothers-in-law Norwood Thomas, Sr. and Edward Moses, Sr. of LaPlace, LA.

Raymond's influence extends to his godchildren, Diavian Caesar of Reserve, LA, and Nickeia Sylve of Gulfport, MS. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends, all touched by his warmth and presence. Together, they carry forward the memories and love he shared throughout his life.

He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Peter “Pierre” Mason, Sr., and Henrietta Green. Among those who departed before him are his loving wife, Geraldine Thomas Mason; his brothers: Clarence, Sr., Louis, Peter, Jr., Roland, Sr., Adam, Alvin, Sr., Charles Batiste, Melvin Batiste, Sr., and Edward Green. The loss extends to sisters Delores Smith and Leona Green, as well as his daughter Radiena Mason, stepson John Grant, and grandchildren Deangela James and Rayquan Mason.

Within his many relationships, he bid farewell to brothers-in-law Junior Kelly, William Grover, Sidney Smith, Sr., Eugene Branch, Freeman Paterson, Curtis Thomas, Sr., and Victor Thomas, Jr. The circle of departed also includes sisters-in-law Laddie Mason, Shirley Mason, Lutha Mason, Louise Mason, Marie Batiste, Barbara Moses, Catherine Patterson, Sonja Thomas, and Zilda Thomas. Additionally, his godchild Cleveland Anderson, Jr. joins the cherished memories of those who have left this earthly realm.

A man of few words, Raymond's silent strength and dedication left an indelible mark on his family and community. His legacy is not in what he said, but in the values, he instilled and the connections he forged. Raymond will be remembered as a pillar of strength, a loving family man, and a figure whose actions spoke louder than words.
