Our beloved Ralph Eli August transitioned from his earthly life on Friday, March 22, 2024.  Ralph was born on July 8,1942 and was the fourth of seven children born to the union of the late Emile August, Sr. and Sylvia Brooks August. He was reared in a Chistian home in Lucy, LA and attended Lucy Elementary and Second Ward High School. At the age of 24, Ralph began his career at Avondale Shipyard and advanced his position to Crane Operator, where he remained employed for 32 years until retirement.

On June 10, 1963, Ralph and Betty Cannon were united in marriage, from their union four children were born: Chandra Marie, Charlene Ann, Charisse Adele and Chareka Rea August.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years Betty Cannon August, his children Chandra Marie August, Charlene Ann Roussell (Ernest), Rhonda Johnson (Tim), Charisse Adele O’Brien, Bridget Daniels and Chareka Rea August, his grandchildren; Chandler August (Ashley), Jamie Williams, James Williams, Caynon Roussell, Victoria Holmes (Mark), Chyanne O’Brien, And Chailyn August; 10 great grandchildren, his siblings, Emile Paul August,Jr., Catherine Packer, Carolyn Gerard (Preston) and Vernadean Underwood, his sister-in-law Mary Cannon Lewis, and Steve “Benny” Ross, his God Children Deadra August, Shawun August ( Juanna), Colleen August Hills (Ron), Katrina Dumas (Reginald), and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Emile August, Sr. and Sylvia Brooks August, Wallace Cannon, Sr., and Victoria Markey Cannon; his siblings Jane Aldean August, Charles Flavin August; his in-laws Ernestine Savoie August, Charles Cannon, George Cannon, Sheldon Cannon, Wallace Cannon, Jr., Delores Downing, Shirley Edmonson August, Vivian Gordon, Daniel Packer, Audrey Reed, Myrtle Woods, Charles Underwood, and his nephews Darrin and Darwin Lumar.

Relatives and friends of the family, Priest and Parishioners of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and all surrounding churches are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am on Saturday, April 6, 2024 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 2349 LA-18, Edgard, LA 70049.  Visitation 8:00am until time of service at the above-named Church.  Interment Killona Resthaven Cemetery, Mary Plantation Rd, Hwy 3141, Killona, LA  70057.  Final Arrangements Entrusted to Patrick H.
