Ollie Mae Anderson

June 16, 1933 - September 17, 2024

Ollie Mae  Cook Anderson, lovingly known as “Macy”, passed away peacefully on September 17, 2024, at 4:30am in her home surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on June 16, 1933, in New Orleans, Louisiana. She attended schools in the St. John the Baptist Parish and was a devout Catholic deeply rooted in her faith. She was a dedicated member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Reserve, Louisiana where she served as a member of the Altar Society. She never missed a Saturday or Sunday mass and always served her community with a heart full of love and devotion.

Macy was a pillar in her community. She was known for her boundless generosity and her open door policy, especially when it came to her legendary home cooked meals. On any given Sunday, friends and neighbors were eagerly knocking at her door for a serving of her famous crawfish bisque, cabbage and rabbit. Her hospitality and culinary talents brought joy to many with her home often becoming a gathering place for those in need of warmth and nourishment.  She also graciously cooked for every Ambassador Club meeting.

She spent years working as a housekeeper at the Hilton Hotel. Macy was a dedicated businesswoman, serving as a dependable and trustworthy partner at The Tender Love and Care Daycare. Each morning she greeted the children at 5:00am with a hot breakfast, ensuring that the little ones started their day with a warm meal and love. She opened the daycare center and received the children two hours earlier than normal business hours. The children especially looked forward to her delicious shrimp pasta on holidays, which became a favorite amongst them. She also served as a caregiver to the late Mr. Charles Gregoire. Macy was blessed to be a blessing to others.

She was a die-hard New Orleans Saints fan and an avid lover of wrestling. Macy also enjoyed dancing, going on bus rides to the casino and hanging with family and friends. Macy’s enthusiasm for life was contagious, and her presence brought joy to those around her.

Macy was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Henry Hampton Cook and Stella Placide Cook, her loving husband Warren Anderson, her siblings, Audrey Cook Gregoire, Larry Cook Sr., Stella Jean Edwards, Nephews, Raynaldo Gregoire, Larry Cook Jr. and Ronald Cook.

She leaves to mourn her passing, her daughter Laverne Anderson-Sanders (Andrew), her granddaughter Nadious Anderson, her twin great-granddaughters La’Daisha Pitts and Na’Daisha Pitts and brother David Cook Sr.  In addition, Macy leaves behind a host of other cherished family members and friends, including Romi’an Davis, who was like a granddaughter to her; her devoted cousin Erica “Monique” Cook; her loving and dedicated neighbor Joyce Ann Young; her devoted nieces Connie Cook Ramos, Karen Cook, Lentreise Gregoire Bardell, her godchild Wanda Perrilloux Calais, all of whom played a significant role in the months leading up to her homegoing. Her godchildren LaSonn Kennard Porter, Renee Keller, Beatrice Jones, Bhraiden McGee, Melissa Nicholson and Margie “Pean” Tuircuit will forever remember her kindness and guidance.

Throughout her life, Macy exemplified the virtues of faith, love and service, always finding time to care for her community, her family and the Lord. She leaves behind a legacy of warmth, devotion and a spirit that touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. Macy also leaves behind her dearest friends Arnell McGee, Mable “Skinny” Joseph, Mary Bovie, Lola B. Neal, the late Theresa Gibson and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Ollie Mae Anderson’s legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

She will be deeply missed and never forgotten.

Relatives and friends of the family, Priest and Parishioners of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church and all neighboring churches are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, 772 LA-44, Reserve, LA 70084.   Visitation 8:00am until time of Mass at the above-named church.  Interment St. Peter Catholic Cemetery, 1550 LA-44, Reserve, LA 70084.  Final Arrangements Entrusted to Patrick H.
