Monita Rita August

Monita Rita Baham August peacefully entered her eternal home on Thursday, February 10, 2022 at Ormond Nursing Care Center with her loved ones by her side, at the age of 78. She was also affectionately known as “Bunny” or “Stag” by her closest friends. Monita was a graduate of Carver High School in Hahnville, LA class of 1962. She was raised in the Catholic faith but at the age of 66 she rededicated her life to Jesus Christ and was baptized at Canaan Baptist Church. She was a devoted mother and homemaker for many years; a pillar of her community willing to help anyone she could. She loved her children and grandchildren immensely.

She is survived by her loving children Gralon August, Dwayne August (Vashta), Roderick August (Tracie), Colleen Hills (Ron). Brothers Barry Baham (Jacquelyn), Nathan Baham & Myron Baham (Adlene). Honorary Siblings Jerry Darensburg (Glenda), Monica Lewis (Brent), Gregory Kelly & Mark Kelly (Eileen). Her beloved grandchildren, the late Jarus Griffin, Bettina Bush, Donasha Washington, Jaylira August, Roderick August Jr., Justin Lathers, Jamon Lathers, Shamera August, Destiny Lathers, Ryan August, Tylon Francis and Ashton August, also 13 great grandchildren. She also leaves to cherish her memories, her longtime and best friends Helena August and Mary Lewis; devoted niece Patrice Edwards, Godson Mark Kelly, Goddaughter Marella Narcisse; a loving companion Thomas Smith, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and devoted friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents Lawrence and Kate Baham; step-father Curtis Borne; daughter-in-law Lisa August; siblings Henry Baham, Alana Manuel, Kathleen Baham, Ernest Baham & Aaron Baham.

Relatives and friends, Pastors, Officers, and Members of Canaan Baptist Church and all neighboring churches are invited to attend the funeral service on Saturday, February 19, 2022 at 11 a.m. Visitation 9 a.m. at the above named church until time of service. Pastor Henry Wolfe Officiating. In accordance with the CDC guidelines for COVID-19 all in attendance must wear a mask and practice social distancing. Interment Killona Rest Haven Killona, LA.
