Minister Joseph Jackson Obituary

Minister Joseph Jackson

1955 – 2024

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day – and not only to me but also to all who have longed for his appearing.  2 Timothy 4:7-8

Minister Joseph Jackson entered eternal rest Sunday, December 29, 2024, in Jefferson, LA at the age of 69. He was born on September 12, 1955, in Independence, Louisiana, the youngest of nine children born to the late Charity Braziel Jackson and Willie E. Jackson. He attended Mooney Elementary School and Hammond High School in Hammond, LA, graduating in 1973. He continued his higher education at Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, LA graduating in 1977 with a Bachelor's degree in Geography and Sociology. While attending Southeastern he met Cheryl Waston, who he married on August 16, 1980. From this union, they were blessed with a son, Christian Joseph.

Joseph later attended Southern University in New Orleans, LA, receiving a Master’s degree in Criminal Justice. He became an ordained minister in 1999 under the Word of Deliverance ministry in Raceland, LA. During his life Joseph’s continued faith in God was reflected in his devotion of family, his community, and people that were hurting. He was the acting director of Project Destiny Substance abuse Program at New Wine Christian Fellowship from 2004-2006.

Joseph was employed with Goodhope Refinery and transitioned to WITCO Chemical Company. He later pursued a career in substance abuse counseling through the Louisiana Association of Substance Abuse Counselors and Trainers (LASACT). After completing the program, he worked at Grace Outreach Center in New Orleans and as a substance abuse counselor at Gateway Recovery and Pathway to Purpose.

Joseph joined New Wine Christian Fellowship and worked with the New Wine Christian Fellowship Mighty Men Group, he taught Sunday School and New Members classes, he ministered and preached the Gospel at not only New Wind but at other churches and anywhere that he wanted to spread the Word of God especially Tangipahoa and St. Helena Parishes.  Joseph epitomized a blessed life of service to his community and to God through a consecrated life he led always willing to be a living testimony. His goal was to win souls to Christ. He was not a quitter. He was determined to win at whatever he did, even with his mission of winning souls. His ministry extended beyond the four walls of the building. You could readily find Joe at PJ’s Coffee shop, the Walmart parking lot, or the Waffle House.  He was always willing and ready to share the good news of Jesus Christ with anyone he came in contact with. Wherever there was an opportunity to witness Joe was ready. When time permitted, he embraced his hobbies as a runner, bowling, swimming, fishing, and tennis.

Joseph leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife; Cheryl Watson Jackson, son; Christian Joseph Jackson, a beloved granddaughter; Halle Jayde Williams, brother; Woodrow (Louise) Jackson, sister; Ola (John) Tedford, brothers-in-law; Henry Watson and Sean Watson, sisters-in-law; Valerie (Donald) Hutchinson and Jazzlyn Melbrough, godchild; Trecee Hutchinson, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
