Mildred Joseph affectionately known as “Cheeky Black” transitioned peacefully from her earthly life on Wednesday, November 16, 2022 at Ochsner Medical Center, Jefferson, LA. age 75 and a resident of Boutte, LA.
She was born on June 6, 1947 to the union of the late Dennis Joseph, Sr., and Henrietta Stewart Joseph. She was the loving mother of 6 children Lynette Goodman, Willie, Eldon, Kendall, Derrell, Seameka Joseph and stepdaughter Alice Lesene.
Mildred was born in Wallace, LA. where she grew up surrounded by a large family. Sis. Mildred accepted Christ at a young age and was baptized in the river in Wallace, LA by the late Rev. Clarence Washington. She was formally an employee of the St. Charles Parish School System and AME Janitorial Service. She also enjoyed for many years being a Poll Commissioner on Election Days.
She dedicated her life to her children, grandchildren, family, and friends. She enjoyed cooking, fishing, feeding everyone, playing cards and cracking jokes. She loved planning her own birthday parties for her children to fund. She also loved watching the New Orleans Saints football games.
She leave to cherish her memories, her children Willie (Sontrell) Joseph, Lynette (Timothy) Goodman, Eldon (Naomi) Joseph, Kendall (Tamara) Joseph, Derrell Joseph, Seameka(Seymour) Joseph and Alice (Rodney) Lesene . Her grandchildren D’Michael and Shermeka Harris, Dekimbe & Zebadiah Goodman, Asisah White, Kermon Washington, RaQuan, Nai’Shaun, Roshon, Kaleigh, Derrell Joseph, Jr. and Ta’Nesha Steib. Great grandchildren D’Michael Harris, Jr., Jeremiah, Demi and Baylie Goodman, Triston and Skylar White, Nevaya Wright and Tamajh Joseph. Siblings: Ethel Dent, Rosa Lee, Lucille and Delores Joseph, Raymond Lumar, Gilbert, and Ernest (Laverne) Joseph, Sister-in-law Beaulah Joseph, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was a devoted friend to many.
She was preceded in death by her lifelong companion Willie Leon Strickland, her parents, Dennis and Henriette Joseph, Siblings: Lawrence Poche, Dennis Joseph, Jr., Wilbert Joseph, Sr., Wilfred, Alfred, Nancy and Cecil Joseph, Lennix Howard and Vanita Guillard. One grandson Eldon Lonnie Joseph, sister- in-law Cathy Joseph, brother-in-law Phillip Dent, Sr. and her Godchild Phillip Dent, Jr.
Relatives and friends of the family, Pastors, Officers and Members of The Historic Bethlehem Baptist Church and all neighboring churches are invited to the Celebration of Life at 11:00am on Saturday, November 26, 2022 at The Historic Bethlehem Baptist Church, 14989 River Rd, Hahnville, LA 70057. Rev. Rodney Johnson-Pastor/Officiant. Visitation 9:00am at the above-named church until time of service. Interment Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery, Smith Street, Hahnville, LA.
