Marva Banks Carter peacefully departed this earth at 6:25 PM, Thursday, November 30, 2023. She was the eldest daughter of the late Harriet and Matthew Banks. Marva first married the late Alvin Burl and to that union, they were blessed to have one beautiful daughter, Joanne’ Michelle Burl. Marva later married the late Michael Carter and became the stepmother to his two children Kimele Carter and Kendell Carter. She was the loving Grandmother of Jaris Scott (Samantha) and Damari Blount and Step Grandmother to Sophia Carter. She was blessed to have seen her first Great-Grandson Andoche Cambre, III, whom she loved with all her heart. Granddaughter In Love, Samantha.


She is survived by three Sisters Peggy B. Barnes (Lee Chester Barnes, Sr.), Cheryl B. Perrilloux, and Meta B. Agnew (Willie). Three Brothers Carl Michael Banks (Denise), Darryl Banks (Joy) and Leo Smith. Two Uncles Donald Ray Clement and Willie Clement (Anita). Two Aunts – Joyce Houston and Rosemary Pidgeon. Two Sisters-In-Law Carol B. Carter, and Norma Jean Walker (Robert), and one Brother-In-Law, John Carter. Nine people were blessed to call her Godmother or Nanan: Leroy Powell, Gerald Sterling, Tequilla Smith, Dayna Mitchell, Kermit Duhe, Darnell Houston, Ajeya Anthony, Karen Sterling, and Chantel Banks. A devoted Sister/Cousin Emma J. Baloney. A host of other relatives and friends.


Marva was a lifelong resident of LaPlace, LA. She was a graduate of Our Lady of Grace Catholic High School and a faithful lifelong member of Our Lady of Grace Church. She attended Straight’s Business School where she received her degree in Business and Cosmetology. Upon graduating Marva was employed by the Institute of Human Relations at Loyola University in New Orleans, LA. On March 9, 1966, Marva accepted employment at I.E. Dupont in Reserve, LA. She made history as the first African-American Female hired at the site. Her trek began in the mail room. She then moved to the switchboard where she became the voice of Dupont. After many years she accepted a position which moved her to the accounting department from which she retired after 41 years of service. Marva loved her siblings and had a special place in her heart for each of them and they for her. She was affectionately known as ‘Bea’ by her family, and close friends. She was an angel sent to give love and opened her home and heart to embrace Yvette B. Perrilloux and family, Lindsey and Sherion Farlough, Brianna Dickey, Milan Perrilloux, Dymond Lockhart, and The St. Mary's KREWE". 


Marva was preceded in death by her Maternal Grandparents Rose and Joseph Clement. Her Paternal Grandparents Mahalia and Willie Banks and her Brother Matthew Banks, Jr. 


Relatives and friends of the family, Priest and Parishioners of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church and all surrounding churches are invited to a Funeral Mass at 11:00am on Saturday, December 9, 2023 at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, 722 LA-44, Reserve, LA 70084. Visitation 8:15am until time of Mass.  Interment St. Peter Catholic Cemetery, 1550 LA-44, Reserve, LA 70084.  There will be also a visitation on Friday, December 8, 2023 at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church from 7:30pm until 9:00pm.  Final Arrangements Entrusted to Patrick H.
