A faithful and endearing life came to an end on July 29, 2025, when the Lord called sis Lorraine Turley Mitchell “Lo” as she was affectionally known. She was born on November 12, 1941, to the late Preston Turley and Angelina Turley Hawkins. Lorraine was united in holy matrimony to the late Leo Mitchell and to this union three children were born.


Lo confessed Christ at an early age and was baptized by the late Reverend Dell Parker. For many years, she worked as a dedicated domestic worker and had a deep passion for singing and cooking. She was a loving mother, an inspiring grandmother, and a cherished neighbor who found joy in preparing meals that nourished both the soul and the heart.


She leaves to cherish her memories, one daughter, Norma (Otha) Johnson of Destrehan, LA; one son, William L. Mitchell of LaPlace, LA; five granddaughters: Latinya Darensbourg, Jasmine Mitchell of New Sarpy, LA, Ariane (Stanley) Phillips of Hahnville, LA, Shaunea Spencer of Austin, TX, and Johann (Leary) Jackson of LaPlace, LA; two grandsons: Terence Mitchell of Kenner, LA, and Trevone Mitchell of Denver, CO. She is also survived by one sister, Yvonne (Nathaniel) Mitchell; five brothers: David (Latechia) Turley, Wayne (Yolanda) Turley of LaPlace, LA, Lonnie (Maria) Turley, Garrison (Valencia) Turley of St. Rose, LA, and Darryl (Wanda) Turley of Killeen,TX; and two sisters-in-law, Helma of Germany and Josephine Turley of LaPlace, LA.


As the matriarch of her family, she touched many lives and leaves to cherish her Memories, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, along with a devoted niece, Melva Brown.


She was preceded in death by her parents, Preston and Angelina Turley; her husband, Leo Mitchell; one daughter, Jo Ann Mitchell; one son, Kevin Mitchell; and one grandson, Lamont Mitchell. She was also preceded in death by seven brothers, one sister, five aunts, four uncles, five sisters-in-law, and six brothers-in-law.


Relatives and friends of the family, Pastors, Officers and Members of Greater Good Hope Baptist Church and all neighboring Churches are invited to the Celebration of Life Service at 11:00am on Thursday, August 7, 2025, at Greater Good Hope Baptist Church, 47 Cathy Drive, Norco 70079.  Rev. Tyrone Scott, Pastor-Officiating.  Visitation 9:00am until time of service at the above-named Church.  Interment Private.  Final Arrangements entrusted to Patrick H. Sanders Funeral Home & Funeral Directors, LLC.  605 Main Street, Laplace, LA 70068.  985-359-1919.  “Providing Care & Comfort is Our Highest Mission.”
