Obituary of Lillie Graves Brown

1943 - 2024

Lillie  Mae Graves Brown, born on April 29, 1943, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was 81 years old.  Lillie was born to the parentage of Hilda and Robert Graves, Sr. in New Orleans, LA. Her siblings included Robert Jr., Wilfred, Earnest, Charles, Gertrude, and Leonard Graves.  Lillie was educated in the New Orleans Public School System. She graduated from Walter L Cohen High School in 1961.

Lillie married Irvin Brown and moved to Lutcher, Louisiana. There they raised four children, Trenise Brown Washington, Irvin, Kevin, and Kendell Brown.

Her memories will be cherished by her four children Trenise Brown Washington (Tharnell), Irvin Brown Jr, Kevin Brown (Erica), and Kendell Brown; three brothers, Robert Graves Jr. (Carolyn), Leonard Graves (Marilyn), Charles Graves; one sister, Gertrude Spooner (Charles); sisters-in-law, Gwendolyn Graves and Lillie Brown; sixteen grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; god-children, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Lillie is proceeded in death by her parents Hilda and Robert Graves, Sr.; brothers Earnest Graves and Wilfred Graves; husband, Irvin Brown; brothers and sisters-in-law, Alton Pete Brown, Gertrude (Raymond) Albert, Elton (Gloria) Brown, Martha (Vernon) Alexis, Hazel (Johnny) Bowser, and Alma Brown.

Relatives and friends of the family, Pastors, Officers and Member of St. Mark Baptist Church and all neighboring churches are invited to the Celebration of Life Service at 10:00am on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at St. Mark Baptist Church, 132 Marquez Street, Mt. Airy, LA 70076. Pastor Oscar R. Nelson-Officiating. Interment Brown Cemetery, Lutcher, LA. Visitation 9:00am until time of service at the above-named church.
