Lawrence Izeal Sims

1961 - 2025

Lawrence Izeal (Slim) Sims transitioned from his earthly life on on Sunday, July 20, 2025. Lawrence was born May 19, 1961, in New Orleans, Louisiana, to the late Eva Mae Jones and the late Otis Sims. He was a devoted husband to Jerilyn Edwards Sims for 18 years. A loving father to Tyeka Clark, Laquelia Richard, and Nicole Jones, stepfather of Neal Songy Jr and Trena' Songy. A caring brother and uncle to Ada Farlough and her children, Edwin and Darwin Farlough. 

Lawrence is preceded in death by his brother David Jones, Eugene Jones, and Samuel Ash III. He will be deeply missed by a host of nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and step-grandchildren.

Lawrence was a hard worker, working all over the surrounding areas at Ochsner Foundation in New Orleans, St. Charles Borromeo in Destrehan, and Advance Auto here in Laplace.

Lawrence was a devoted member of New Wine Christian Fellowship Church in Laplace, LA, where he met his wife, Jerilyn.  Jerilyn says, "He stalked her until she finally gave in." LOL. Lawrence was an involved member, singing in the choir and later faithfully serving the transportation ministry by driving the Church van to pick up and drop off members. He often stopped and brought them to get lunch at their favorite restaurants, Popeyes, Church's Fried Chicken, and run their Walmart errands. That is why the van always needed gas LOL! One of his favorite memories of serving his church was when he worked security for the shelter at the church for those evacuating from Hurricane Katrina.  He had a generous heart and took great joy in helping others. His kindness, dependability, and willingness to serve others left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him. 

Relatives, friends of the family near and far, pastors, officers and members of New Wine Christian Fellowship and all neighboring Church’s are invited to attend the Funeral Service on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at ten-thirty a.m. at New Wine Christian Fellowship, 1929 W. Airline Hwy. Laplace, LA 70068. Visitation will begin at nine-thirty a.m. Pastor Neil Bernard, Officiating.  Repass at New Wine Christian Fellowship, following the services.  Final Arrangements entrusted to Patrick Sanders Funeral Home & Funeral Directors, LLC. 605 Main Street, Laplace, LA 70068. 985-359-1919.
