Larry Miller, Jr. Obituary

Larry Miller, Jr. was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on November 15, 1967. His untimely departure from this life occurred on June 13, 2022, at the age of 54. He was a devoted and caring son who grew into a kind-hearted man, dedicated father, and a loyal, loving brother.  Those left to cherish his memories are his mother, Peggy Richards Miller Irons and step-father, Lionel Irons, Sr.; daughter, Dajia Love; sons, Damien Miller and Isaiah Miller; brothers, Lionel Irons, Courtney Irons (Kali), Rodney Irons (Cynthia), and Eric Irons (Cathy); sisters, Larrilyn Miller and Deon Irons. He is also survived by a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Larry miller, Sr.; maternal grandparents, Mary Richards Franklin and Alton Richards; and paternal grandparents Hilda Miller and Edward Miller.

Larry was enlisted in of the United States Army from 1989 – 1993. He traveled the world and served his country as a Material Storage and Handling Specialist. During his military career, Larry was repeatedly recognized for his service. He received the Army service ribbon and lapel button, the National Defense Service Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal with Bronze Service Star, the Kuwait Liberation Medal – Saudi Arabia, the M16 Rifle Marksman Badge, the Army Commendation Medal, and the Army Achievement Medal.

After completing his obligation to the United States Military, Larry began working at Avondale Shipyard (Northrop Grumman). He was the type of man who was immediately loved wherever he went. During his time at Avondale, Larry built relationships with his coworkers and peers that lasted well after the job ended – friendships that still remained intact at the time of his passing and will live on forever.

Larry loved spending time cooking and creating delicious meals for his family and friends. He always looked forward to sharing good meals and good times with the people he loved. He was an avid Saints fan (with a lingering soft spot for the Dallas Cowboys). Sunday was Larry’s favorite day of the week – he refused to miss a televised Saints game, and never passed up an opportunity to travel to an away game or to support his team in the Dome.  Larry always had a smile on his face and a joke on his lips. He enjoyed life and was always there to brighten the lives of others. He will be missed by all who adore him, but his memory will forever be in our hearts.
