Joycelyn Ann Roussel Smith 

1952 - 2026

Joycelyn “Joy” Ann Roussel Smith entered into eternal rest on March 19, 2026, at the age of 74. Joycelyn was born on January 8, 1952, in New Orleans, LA to the late Allison Gautier Roussel and the late Royal Forturner Roussel. She was the 3rd of 8 children. She was baptized and confirmed into the Catholic Faith at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Edgard, LA.

She graduated from Edgard High School in Edgard, LA class of 1970. Joycelyn worked as an Office Manager for Dr. Donald Yuratich Dentistry for 20 plus years until her retirement.

Joycelyn was a woman of great style and was known by her family as Ms. Chancellor. Joycelyn took pride in her beautiful long hair. She loved her weekly visits to the hairdresser for her usual wash and set. She loved to cook and bake. The family often requested her famous stuffed “Pee Wee’s.”   She would surprise her granddaughter with homemade brownies and tea cookies when she returned home from school. She could often be found at home relaxing and watching her favorite Nigerian movies or indulging in her obsession “online shopping.”  Joycelyn had a kind spirit and a heart of gold. We will miss you “JOY.”

Joycelyn is survived by her two children Gina Smith and Terry Smith, Jr. and two grandchildren Darian and Taryn Smith and former husband Terry Smith, Sr.; also her siblings Arlene Stipe, Kerry Roussel, Anna August, Joan Bartholomew (Donald) and Cheryl Bastian. She leaves to cherish her memories her Goddaughters Ellayna Stipe and Arianna Bastian, also a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents Royal Roussel and Allison Gautier Roussel. Her brothers Ronald and Gary “Foggy” Roussel, brother-in-law Harry “Buster” August and devoted friend Marcel “Shirt” Pierre.

Relatives and friends of the family, Priest and Parishioners of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, all neighboring Churches, employees of Walmart #2913, Boutte, LA and Dr. Donald Yuratich and his Dentistry staff, are invited to the Funeral Mass at 10:00am on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 2349 LA-18, Edgard, LA 70049. Rev. Robustiano Morgia, Celebrant. Visitation 8:00am until the time of Mass at the above-named Church. Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 9:00am. Interment St. John the Baptist Catholic Mausoleum, Edgard, LA. Final Arrangements entrusted to Patrick H.
