Joseph Simmons, Jr.

1938 - 2026

Joseph Simmons, Jr. departed his earthly life on May 25, 2026.

On February 11, 1938, a baby boy was born to Joseph Simmons, Sr. and Emma Mae Hadley Simmons in New Orleans, LA. Joseph was the second of three children.

Joseph accepted Christ at an early age. He was a member of Beautifull Zion Baptist Church. Later he began serving at Historic Bell Baptist Church in Luling, LA, under the leadership of Pastor Rodney L. Johnson, Sr. Joseph attended school in New Orleans and graduated from L. B. Landry. After finishing school, Joseph enlisted in the United States Army, and served in Seattle Washington. From there He worked in the automotive mechanic field as a technician.

Joseph married Carolyn Reed, to that union two children were born, Glenda and Kieth Simmons.  Joseph later married Wilhelmina Turner Simmons in 1978, and stepfather to Darla Turner Gordon.

Joseph preceded in death by both of his wife; Wilhelmina Turner Simmons, parents; Joseph Sr. and Emma Simmons, Brother; Melvin Simmons and daughter; Glenda Wilson, In-Laws Geneva Dorsey, Louis Turner, Sr., Allen Turner, Sr., Ethel Borne, Hazel Jack-son, Bernice Champagne, Leona Daniels, Bessie White and Rev. Eugene Turner.

Joseph leaves to cherish his memory his sister; Helen Simmons (Thomas) Gunn, son; Keith Sr. (Cressandris) Simmons, stepdaughter; Darla Turner Gordon, In-laws; Mildred Stokes, Lee Turner, Sr. (Emelda), five grandchildren, great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, family members and friends.

A Celebration of Life Service was held on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at Historic Bell Baptist Church,300 Hackberry Lane, Luling, LA 70070.  Rev. Rodney L. Johnson, Sr.-Officiated.
