Bro. Joseph Ernest Prater

1938 - 2025

Bro. Joseph E. Prater, 86, of Metairie, Louisiana, transitioned from Earth to Glory on February 1, 2025. He was born on April 5, 1938, a native of Woodville Mississippi and a resident of Metairie, Louisiana. He lived a fulfilling life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. Bro. Prater will always be remembered for his kind heart, unwavering faith, and gentle spirit.  He leaves to cherish his memories, his beloved wife Dorothy Prater of 55 years, three Sons, Robert Rowe (Clara), Stephan Stovall and Kevin M. Prater. Two Daughters, Jeanette Chakrabarti (Ranjit), Warneida Carter (Marlon). Bro Prater is also survived by 5 Grandchildren and 1 Great Grandson and a Sister-in-law Ora Prater of New Orleans, LA. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lela Walker, and Walter Eugene Prater of Woodville Mississippi. One son, Darren Stovall, Two Sisters, Velma Lorine Prater Wesley and Octavia Stewman, Two Brothers, John Edward Prater, and Charles Prater.

Relatives and Friends of the Family, Pastors, Officers and members of Hill of Zion Baptist Church and all neighboring Churches are all invited to attend the Celebration of Life Service at 10:00am on Saturday, February 8th, 2024, at Hill of Zion Baptist Church 1413 S. Dilton Street, Metairie LA 70003. Pastor Asters E. Dixon-officiating. Viewing and Visitation 8:00am until 10:00am. Celebration of Life 10:00 am. Interment, Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery, Slidell, LA.
