Reverand Joseph Linton Mamou

1958 - 2024

Reverand Joseph Linton Mamou passed from this earthly life on Friday, November 29, 2024, at the age of 66. Joseph was born to the union of Austin and Vester Mamou of Lafayette, LA, on October 10, 1958. He was the oldest of five children. Sandra (Harold) Parker, Mary M. Duncan, Rose Mamou White, and Austin (Glenella) Mamou, Jr. From an early age, Reverand Joseph enjoyed working hard and laboring with his hands. He began helping his dad work his concrete business in his early teens where he remained until he started his own concrete business in the 90s. In 1978, he met Mary Lee Mamou at his uncle's wedding. It was love at first sight, and they married on October 6, 1979, a year later. They moved to Garyville, Louisiana, in 1985, where they raised their five children: Samuel, Grace, Immanuel, Heaven, and Joseph. Joseph and Mary were married for 28 years until her passing.

In 2005, Reverand Joseph and Mary felt called to Bible school; they enrolled in Louisiana Bible College. Before being called to Bible school, he served as chaplain for the state and a deacon in the Catholic church. In 2009, Reverand Joseph graduated with his Bachelor of Theology. Shortly after graduating from Bible school, he began working for the Port of South Louisiana and served as a minister at Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church in Wallace, LA. He was a man of many talents, cutting grass, landscaping, and running his side business, "Enhanced Concrete," in his spare time. Reverand Joseph enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was loved by his friends and family and will be dearly missed.

 He leaves to cherish his memories his beloved children, Samuel (Kristen) Mamou, Grace Mamou (Gregory Sanders), Immanuel (Daesha) Mamou, Heaven Mamou (Versell Thompson), Joseph (Kacie) Mamou, LaDana (Felton) Lindon and Thaddeus Carnell Benoit, seventeen grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and five God-children.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Lee Mamou; father, Austin Mamou Sr.; nephew, O'Bryan Parker;  uncles, Louis, Sr., Dalton, Ashby, Andrew, Steven Mamou, Ricky, Arthur, and Landis Sassau, Jr., and Aunts, Eula McKnight, Inez Jones, Shirley Mae Calais, Vertie Mae Landry, and Mary Davis, and both his maternal grandparents Rose and Landis Sassau; and paternal grandparents Arceneaux and Amelia Bonnet Mamou.

Relatives and friends of the family near and far, also Pastors, Officers, and Members of New Wine Christian Fellowship and all neighboring churches, employees of Port of Louisiana(Reserve Branch), Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church and Christian Bible College of Louisiana are all invited to attend the Funeral Service on Saturday, December 7, 2024, one o’clock p.m. at New Wine Christian Fellowship 1929 Airline Hwy. LaPlace, LA. Visitation will begin at noon. Pastor Neil Bernard, Officiating. Interment in St. John Memorial Gardens in LaPlace, LA.
