Joseph Stewart Bright

1964 - 2024

Joseph Stewart "Doodie Man" Bright, a fun and loving person who was truly a "force to be reckoned with," passed away on Labor Day, September 2, 2024, at East Jefferson General Hospital in Metairie, LA, at the age of 60.  Born on August 9, 1964, in New Orleans, LA, Joseph was the beloved son of the late Norah Joseph "Tim" Stewart, Jr. and Rose Lee Bright, who both preceded him in death, along with his dear grandparents.

Joseph grew up in St. John the Baptist Parish, where he began his journey through life. A proud graduate and band member of East St. John High School in Reserve, LA, Joseph went on to further his education and gift in music at Southern University and A&M College in Baton Rouge, LA. At Southern University, he stood out as a talented saxophonist, earning a spot in the marching band and making a lasting impression on those around him, often being described as someone who "made the band."

Known for his independent spirit and free-thinking attitude, Joseph had a joyful and engaging personality that brightened every room he entered. His favorite colors were black and blue, which he often wore with his blue Dickies, signature shades, and a nice pair of shoes. Joseph was the life of the party, always ready to laugh, tell a funny joke or a "true" story, dance, and spread joy. He loved music and dancing and had a passion for cars and building detailed car models.

After his time at Southern University, Joseph went out and independently made a life for himself with a successful career in the rental car industry in New Orleans, which later took him to Gulfport, MS. His strong work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit led him to start his own car detailing business. He held notable positions at both UPS and FedEx, but health issues ultimately led him to retire early from UPS.

Joseph's memory will forever be cherished by his loving fiancé of 10 years, Monique Berry; his children Brandon Leblanc, Diamond (Darryl) Adams, Darion Bright, and Halle Sigue; and his beloved grandchildren Ace Adams and Gem Adams. He is also survived by his brothers Irving Jr. (Florese) Bright, Gerry Bright, Henry Bright, and Billy Bright; his sister Nora (Richard) Coxie; and many other family members and friends who will miss him dearly.

Joseph was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents, his sisters Juanita M. Ward and Jacquelyn Thompson; his nephews David Lewis Ward, Tyronne Kirk Creecy, Jr., and Bernard "Jack" Jarrow Ill; and other relatives and friends who went before him.

Joseph Stewart "Doodie Man" Bright will be remembered for his joyful spirit, love of life, and the positive impact he had on everyone around him. He will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered.  In most families, the 'baby' of the family is usually "the one" known to bring a unique personality like no other, and "Doodie Man" did not disappoint. He lived up to that. His life was well-lived, and his absence will be felt for generations to come. We are blessed to have experienced such an amazing man in our lifetime.

Relatives and friends of the family, Pastors, Officers and Members of Milesville Church of God in Christ and all neighboring churches are invited to attend the Celebration of Life Service at 1:00pm on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at Milesville Church of God in Christ, 129 Apple Street, Laplace, LA 70068.  Bishop Ronald Frank, Pastor-Officiating.  Visitation 12:00pm until time of service at the above-named church.  Interment will be private.  Final Arrangements Entrusted to Patrick H.
