Mr. Johnny Price, III affectionately known as “Ops,” transitioned from his earthly life on Sunday, April 21, 2024, at the Southeastern Louisiana Veterans Home in Reserve, LA, at the age of ninety-three.


Johnny was born on October 25, 1930. He was a native of Baton Rouge, LA and resident of New Sarpy, LA. He is survived by one daughter Tanza C. Hamilton (Harold), two granddaughters, Dr. Tranise Hamilton-Goodlow (Preston) and Taraina A. Hamilton. Three Great-grandsons Parker, Paxton, and Patrick Goodlow. Five nieces Pamela T. James (Lionel), Iris T. Lewis (Ronald), Thea Thomas, Tajuana W. LaGrange, and Tara W. Marshall (Christopher). Four nephews, Eddie B. Thomas (Sherry), Torey M. Wright, Jerrod Price Jr., and Alonzo Price. One sister-in-law Joyce W. Wilderson (Ralph). A host of cousins, relatives, and friends also survive him.


Johnny’s career spanned over 40 years at the Illinois Central Railroad Company, where he served as a mechanical supervisor. He graduated from McKinley High School in Baton Rouge, LA and attended Grambling State University. Johnny was also a proud U.S. Army veteran.


In his free time, Johnny enjoyed time with his family, fishing, raising German Shepherds, traveling, and helping with the renovation of his church.


Johnny was preceded in death by his wife Delores W. Price, mother Claudia Price Simmons, stepfather Henry Simmons, his father Johnny Price Jr., sister Bobbie Simmons Thomas, brother Jerrod Price Sr., mother-in-law Neotha Johnson Norris and brother-in-law Walter “Tar” Wright III.


Relatives and friends of the family, also pastor officers and members of St. Matthew Baptist Church and all neighboring churches, employees of Jefferson Parish Public Schools, Entergy of LA, Johnson and Johnson Pharmaceutical Company and St. Charles Parish Public Schools are invited to attend the Funeral Service at St. Matthew Baptist Church, 604 E.S. Johnson St. New Sarpy, LA at 11:00am on Friday, May 3, 2024. Reverand Jeff Patterson-Pastor and Officiant. Visitation 10:00am until time of service at above-named church. Interment at Jefferson Memorial Gardens, 11316 River Rd, St. Rose, LA 70087. Final Arrangements Entrusted to Patrick. H.
