Jerry Anthony Darensbourg, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and cherished member of his community, passed away peacefully on May 12, 2026, just three days before his 86th birthday. He was born on May 15, 1940, the son of the late Wilson Darensbourg and Carmelite Roublow Kelly and Andrew Kelly, Jr. For 65 beautiful years, Jerry was the loving husband of Glenda Jean Louis Darensbourg, whom he adored. Jean was the apple of his eye, and together they built a life centered around love, laughter, family, and simple pleasures. After his retirement from Union Carbide Chemical Plant, Jerry and Jean could often be found enjoying their favorite pastime—fishing sitting side by side. Jerry was a founding member of the Killona Volunteer Fire Department, where he served his community with pride and dedication. He was well known and deeply respected throughout the community, admired for his kindness, generosity, and steady presence. Those who knew him also knew his fondness for Blue Bell ice cream, a simple pleasure that always brought him joy Jerry was the devoted father to Rick (Pamela), Troy, Vonda, Sandy, and John (Jessica) Darensbourg. His steady presence, wisdom, and deep love shaped the lives of his children and extended through generations. He leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and treasured memories that will forever be cherished by his beloved wife, Jean; his children Rick (Pamela), Troy, Vonda, Sandy, and John (Jessica); Honorary children, Gia and LeVar (Nicondra) Lewis, and Ryne Mashia; his grandchildren Dominique, Jonte (Arial), Rico, Niya (May), Jenidza, JP (Gabriella), Mark, Nolan Zuri, Zende and Gage; and his great-grandchildren Logan, Londyn, Jianni, Nina, Hunter, Payton, and Esme. He is also survived by his sister Melissa Buckley; brothers, Adrian Kelly and Larry Darensbourg; aunt, Carol Kelly Dunbar; sisters-in-law Faye Gauthier, Norma Louis, and Nova Lewis; and his brother-in-law, Nelson Louis, Jr.; God children, Vanessa Joseph and Parnell Morris; devoted cousin Wilson Raymond.
Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, Wilson Darensbourg, Carmelite Roublow Kelly and Andrew Kelly, Jr.; sisters, Valerie Borne and Monica Lewis; brothers, Gregory Kelly and Ronald Darensbourg; honorary sister, Monita August; grandparents, Albert Darensbourg and Elita Darensbourg, Ferdinand Roublow and Carmelite Roublow, Andrew Kelly, Sr., and Eva Kelly; his mother and father-in-law, Viola Louis and Nelson Louis, Sr.; sisters-in-law, Deanna Mitchell and Donnell Favorite; brothers-in-law, Gary, Spencer and Brent Lewis; God daughter, Kelly Cannon; and devoted friends Savior Cannon and Ben Singleton.
He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends who will forever carry his memory. He will be greatly missed but will live on forever in our hearts.
Relatives and friends of the family, Priest and parishioners of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and all neighboring Churches are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am on Friday, May 22, 2026, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 2349 LA-18, Edgard, LA 70049. Reverend Robustiano Morgia, Celebrant. Visitation will begin at 8:00am until the time of Mass at the above-named Church. Interment St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery.
