Jacob Cleveland Markey Obituary

Jacob Cleveland Markey was born on December 31, 1978 to the union of his parents: the late Mr. Junius Markey, Jr., and Mrs. Geralyn W. Wright. He was born at Southern Baptist Hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana. Jacob was baptized at an early age in New Orleans, Louisiana. He grew up in Hahnville, Louisiana along with his siblings Canya Monique, Junius III and Charlene Melissa. He graduated from Hahnville High School in 1997 and later attended Nicholls State University in Thibodeaux, Louisiana where he studied Graphic Design. After college, he worked in the construction industry building scaffolds.  When he moved to Memphis, Tennessee, he furthered his education by receiving his certification in Welding at Moore Tech.  Memphis, TN was also the place where he met and married his wife Stephanie Campbell Markey on December 1, 2012.

Jacob was preceded in death by his father: Junius Markey Jr., his maternal grandparents: Cleveland White and Octavia McCoy White; his paternal grandparents: Rev. Junius Markey, Sr. and Evelina Hadley Markey, as well as a host of aunts, uncles and cousins.

Jacob was a bright light. His personality was always bigger than any room he entered. He had many nicknames like Grandpa, Jake, Big Yokohama (like the tires), and Black Jesus.  He will be missed by everyone in his family and everyone he met.  Jacob never met a stranger, his uncanny ability to be a prophet in his own way amazed everyone.  Jacob was a resident of Memphis Tennessee where he said, “I became a man.”  He was proud of all his accomplishments and his ability  to use his education and training to be a supporter to many.
The love he had for his family, friends and associates was unconditional.  His heart was so full of love for the people he cared about.  He kept in contact with family and friends without each other ever knowing the depths of his empathetic concerns because family meant the world to him.

Jacob leaves to cherish his memories: wife Stephanie Markey; mother, Geralyn W. Wright (Richard); sister, Canya Markey; brother, Junius Markey III; sister, Charlene Markey (Gregory); niece/godchild Janeese Ann Markey; nephew, Chayse Matthew Gordon, whom Jake called "Be-beaux" and godmother, Daphne Williams.  Whenever Jake would call his godmother, which was often, he would always start the call with a loud exclamation: NANNNY!  He also leaves to cherish his memory his best friend Ellis Alexander and a host of cousins, other relatives, classmates, coworkers and friends.

Jacob Cleveland Markey will be truly missed by everyone he touched.  A husband, a son, a brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, friend who will forever live in our hearts, and we will always wonder, what if……we had more time.
