Harry Dorsey, Sr. was born to the union of the late Hannibal and Easter Davis Dorsey on July 24, 1935 in Boutte, Louisiana. He married Linda Harris on July 12, 1993.
Harry served in the military between 1954-1956. Harry may not have had a formal education but God blessed Harry with an entrepreneurial spirit. Harry operated his own Dump Truck Business. He was the only African American to have a Sanitation Contract with St. Charles Parish; he had a Mail Carrying Service in which he received mail from New Orleans to be delivered in St. Charles Parish, and lastly a Tow Truck Service before his failing health. As a member of Mt. Airy B.C. he played the organ and sung in the Male Choir.
The Lord quietly called Harry home on Tuesday, December 27, 2022. Harry leaves to cherish his memories, his loving wife, Linda Harris Dorsey; four devoted children, Harry Dorsey, Jr. (Gwendolyn), Sontrell Joseph (Willie), Kendell Harris (Angel) and Jacenta Harris; two sisters, Geraldine Dorsey Hill and Margaret Dorsey; one brother, Clarence Dorsey; four brothers-in-law, Lenix (Linnie), Lionel (Rosemary), Roger Harris and John (Christine) Harrison; two sisters-in-law, Barbara Dorsey and Janet Harris; ten grandchildren, Trey Dorsey, D’Micheal, Shermeka, A’Donte, Kenyelle, Kendell Jr., and Journei Harris, Ja’Ron ,Ja’vion and Jah’Mere Myles; two great grandchildren, Nevaeh Dorsey and D’Micheal Harris Jr. one Godchild, Frank Wendall Boyd; a host of other relatives, friends, and the entire Mt. Airy Baptist Church family.
He was preceded in death by his parents Hannibal and Easter Davis Dorsey; two brothers Lester Bailey, Sr. and George Dorsey; five sisters, Clemantine Boyd, Grace Dorsey Alexander, Alice Dorsey Evans, Estell Dorsey Irons and Ruth Dorsey McKay.
Relatives and friends of the family, Pastors, Officers and Members of Mt. Airy Baptist Church and all neighboring churches are invited to a Celebration of Life at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 7, 2023 at Mt. Airy Baptist Church, 13635 Old Spanish Trail, Boutte, LA 70039. In accordance with the CDC guidelines for COVID-19 masks are required for all in attendance. Visitation 9:00am until time of service at the above-named church. Interment Mt.
