Gwendolyn (Jones) Bowman

August 26, 1951 ~ July 17, 2022 (age 70)

On August 26, 1951, in New Orleans Louisiana, Gwendolyn Jones Bowman was given by God to Holloway and Mary Alice Jones. She was the 2nd oldest of 10 children to this blessed union.

Holloway Jones Sr. lovingly instilled Christian values and the importance of family on their children at a young age. The Bible says, “Train up a child in the way that he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it”.   So, in keeping in line with her rearing to love the Lord, Gwendolyn accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior at the tender age of 7. She was baptized by the late Pastor Steve Griffin at Little Zion Baptist Church#3 of Marrero Louisiana. She later moved her membership to the Regular Baptist Church, under the auspices of the late Pastor Daniel J. Powell, where she remained a faithful, member for many years.  Then in December of 2021 God impressed upon her heart to move her membership to Truevine Baptist Church of Hahnville Louisiana, under the Pastorship of her nephew, Pastor Troy D. Smith Sr., where she remained faithful until her departure from this side of Heaven.

Gwen was a proud Lincolnite, graduating from Lincoln High School in Marrero, La.  She also worked for many years as a Security operations specialist in New Orleans Louisiana.  There she was known as an exemplary employee, with an unmatched record for quality and order amongst her peers.

“He who findeth a wife findeth a good thing”. The late Lorenzo Bowman found his good thing when he married Gwendolyn Jones. From this loving union, four blessing were born: Sandra Brown, Warren Bowman, Derrick Bowman, and Lavone Bowman.

Gwendolyn (Gwen) was a loving, kind, stern woman of God, who followed the legacy handed to her by her father, God and family first. She also helped anyone who entered her home become acquainted with the word of God by her many, many, many posted scriptures and sticky notes, on the walls, refrigerator, on doors, and even inside closets and drawers. Yes! Gwendolyn was a mighty woman of God.

As a two-time cancer survivor, Gwen amazed everyone with her tenacious determination to rise above and overcome challenges with her unwavering faith.  Never once did she speak about giving up or death, she spoke only about life and living, and living life to the fullest is what she did.  Not only did she live life to the fullest, but Mrs. Chancellor looked amazing doing it!
