On August 26, 1951, in New Orleans Louisiana, Gwendolyn Jones Bowman was given by God to Holloway and Mary Alice Jones. She was the 2nd oldest of 10 children to this blessed union.
Holloway Jones Sr. lovingly instilled Christian values and the importance of family on their children at a young age. The Bible says, “Train up a child in the way that he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it”. So, in keeping in line with her rearing to love the Lord, Gwendolyn accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior at the tender age of 7. She was baptized by the late Pastor Steve Griffin at Little Zion Baptist Church#3 of Marrero Louisiana. She later moved her membership to the Regular Baptist Church, under the auspices of the late Pastor Daniel J. Powell, where she remained a faithful, member for many years. Then in December of 2021 God impressed upon her heart to move her membership to Truevine Baptist Church of Hahnville Louisiana, under the Pastorship of her nephew, Pastor Troy D. Smith Sr., where she remained faithful until her departure from this side of Heaven.
Gwen was a proud Lincolnite, graduating from Lincoln High School in Marrero, La. She also worked for many years as a Security operations specialist in New Orleans Louisiana. There she was known as an exemplary employee, with an unmatched record for quality and order amongst her peers.
“He who findeth a wife findeth a good thing”. The late Lorenzo Bowman found his good thing when he married Gwendolyn Jones. From this loving union, four blessing were born: Sandra Brown, Warren Bowman, Derrick Bowman, and Lavone Bowman.
Gwendolyn (Gwen) was a loving, kind, stern woman of God, who followed the legacy handed to her by her father, God and family first. She instilled Christian values and a deep love of God and family in her children and all who would listen. She also helped anyone who entered her home become acquainted with the word of God by her many, many, many posted scriptures and sticky notes, on the walls, refrigerator, on doors, and even inside closets and drawers. Yes! Gwendolyn was a mighty woman of God.
Gwendolyn Bowman affectionately known to family and friends as “Mrs. Chancellor” was and is an example of excellence at its finest. Gwen was also exemplified how to face problems head on. As a two-time cancer survivor, Gwen amazed everyone with her tenacious determination to rise above and overcome challenges with her unwavering faith. Never once did she speak about giving up or death, she spoke only about life and living, and living life to the fullest is what she did. Not only did she live life to the fullest, but Mrs. Chancellor looked amazing doing it! Gwendolyn Bowman, Mother, Wife, Sister, Grandmother, Aunt, Cousin, Pillar of the Family, Friend Prayer Warrior, Intercessor, Faithful Servant, Purpose Driven, and extraordinary Woman of God. Her inviting, velvet, base toned voice and loud fun filled laugh will carry on our hearts forever.
On Sunday July 17, 2022, her pre -ordained date destiny, a precious heart stopped beating and Gwendolyn Bowman instantly transitioned, leaving the sorrows of this world to be at peace with God in whom she loves.
Gwendolyn was preceded in death her parents; Holloway Jones Sr., Mary Alice Jones, and Rutha Mae Jones Her husband; Lorenzo Bowman; her daughter, Sandra Bowman; sisters, Marilyn Marie Smith, Jacqueline Ann Jones, Cherlyn Robinson, Terrylyn Clark, brothers; Holloway Jones Sr., Norman Jones, and Kevin Jones.
She leaves to cherish her memories; her children, Warren and Larea Bowman, Derrick and Trenell Bowman and Lavone Bowman; her siblings, David Jones, Joycelyn Jones Ogbonna, Katina Jones, Wyndell Jones, James Wallace, Judy Wallace, Joseph Wallace and Murrary Wallace ; 10 grandchildren; Patrick George, Lawryn Bowman, Jaliscia Bowman, Warren Bowman Jr. , D’Jonay Bowman, Derrick Bowman Jr., Clevon Brown, Jr., Jada Bowman, Colill Bowman, and Dareous Bowman, 7 Great Grandchildren; Nolah McGee, Maci Thomas, Warren Bowman III, AnJae Carter, Marcell Carter, William Webster III, D’Jon Webster, one God child Nathaniel Smith, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives , and friends.
Relatives and friends of the family, Pastors, Officers and Members of Truevine Baptist Church and all neighboring churches are invited to a Celebration of Life, Saturday, July 30, 2022, 11:00 am at Truevine Baptist Church, 340 Courthouse Ln, Hahnville, LA 70057. Rev. Troy D. Smith, Sr., Pastor-Officiant. In accordance with the CDC guidelines for COVID-19 mask are suggested for all in attendance. Visitation 9:00 am until time of service at the above-named church. Interment Restlawn Cemetery, Avondale, LA. Final Arrangements entrusted to Patrick H.
