“Gee-Gee”
1967 - 2024
Ganelda Marie “Gee Gee” Edwards Cannon transitioned from her earthly life surrounded by her family on September 19, 2024, at her home in Laplace, LA at the age of 57. Born to the union of the late Ernest Joseph Edwards and Beatrice Lumar Edwards on July 8, 1967, Ganelda was the youngest of her siblings. She was baptized at St John the Baptist Catholic Church in Edgard, LA and was a member of Ascension of our Lord church in Laplace, LA. She was a native of Edgard, LA and a longtime resident of Laplace, LA
Ganelda graduated in 1985 from West Saint John High school in Edgard. Education was important to her. Her ambition and determination made it possible for her to pursue a double major degree in Chemistry and Biology in 1991 from Southern University of Baton Rouge. After completing College Ganelda worked as a Chemist for Pinnacle Polymers for about six years and Marathon for 16 years. She also worked in health care as a Laboratory tech for a few years. Ganelda was united in holy matrimony to Anthony Cannon Sr. in a private ceremony on April 20, 2002. From their 22 years of marriage, came two of the five children they shared. Kyle and Kayden from their union. Kylund (Arianne) Edward, Amanda (Marcus) Hodges and Anthony Cannon, Jr. from pervious unions. Gee’s love for her kids and grandchildren was indescribable. They were her world.
Gee Gee, as she was affectionately known, was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her smile was contagious and unforgettable. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Ganelda enjoyed family vacations and trips. She loved girl’s night with her sisters and nieces. Her pride was being there for her sons during their sports and extra curriculum adventures. Friday night football watching Kyle “Deuce” Cannon was such a joy for her. She loved watching Kayden swim meets and him breaking his own swim records and unforgettable lunches with Kylund. She was so proud of their awards and accomplishments. She also enjoyed Mardi Gras, riding in the parades, and making her “concoction” alcoholic drinks for family and friends to enjoy. The love and laughter shared with others from Ganelda will forever be embedded in the hearts of those who crossed her path.
Ganelda leaves behind her precious memories that will forever be cherished by her Loving Husband: Anthony Cannon Sr.; her sons: Kylund (Arianne) Edwards; Kyle, Kayden and Anthony Cannon Jr; Daughter Amanda (Marcus) Hodges; grandsons Amir Edwards, Micah and Marcus Hodges Jr., granddaughters Amani Cannon and Ava Hodges; two sisters: Darlene (Landry) Borne and Kimberlyn (Ramon) Colman; five brothers: Donald (Deshawn) Edwards, Craig (Joyce) Edwards, Gerald Edwards, Robin Edwards and Shannon Edwards; sisters-in-law Tanya Harris, Kadoma Cannon; brothers-in-law Roshon Cannon, Julius Cannon Jr.; Godmother Patricia Populis and Godfather Joseph Hilaire Jr.; Goddaughters: Trenecia Edwards and Amiya Lumar; a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
