Floyd Dickerson Obituary

Floyd Dickerson

1952 - 2024

Floyd “Man” Dickerson. entered this world on December 19,1952. He was the eighth of nine children and the youngest son of William Sr. and Edna Clark Dickerson of Garyville, LA. He was a cherished member of his family. After having spent eleven months of his young life in the hospital he joined his siblings and began his journey of exhibiting and extending unconditional love. He was a conversationalist and ALWAYS had something to say.

Floyd gave his life to Christ at an early age and was a faithful member of the From My Heart to Yours Family Worship Center of LaPlace. LA. under the leadership pf Pastor Carla Collins Jones. He served as the unofficial Greeter of the church and always shared a kind word and peppermints with everyone he came into contact with.

Through the hard work and persistence of his mother Edna, Floyd was given the opportunity to be educated in the Public School Systems of St. John the Baptist Parish and the State of Louisiana. Her tireless pursuit of equity for him crossed the desk of House Leader Hale Boggs who in turned opened doors for Floyd. He was forever grateful for Mrs. Glendora Grant and Mrs. Geraldine Holland. Floyd loved Art and would draw on you if you stayed still too long. He loved the texture of the paper and never shied away from creating the size he deemed necessary for his latest project.

On Saturday, December 28th, 2024 Floyd went home to be with his Lord and Savior. Oh, the Joy that floods our soul knowing that as he is absent from the body, HE IS PRESENT WITH THE LORD.  He was truly loved by many and will be greatly missed by family and friends. The bond that was established amongst his Dickerson Family was immeasurable. He was showered with love by his siblings, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He leaves to cherish his memories his siblings: Verlina D. Simmons, Olivia D. Gordon, Gertie Mae D. Polk, Irene D. Jasmine, William Dickerson (Jennifer), Brenda D. Pierce, Whitney Dickerson (Sandra), and Pamela M. Dickerson. His nieces and nephews Pastor Carla Collins Jones (Barry), Andriea G.
