Dorothy Mae Bryant
1946 - 2024
On Friday, March 1, 2024, Dorothy Mae Bryant was called to her heavenly home. The veil of pain and suffering lifted as she entered eternal rest. Her memory lives on through her devoted children, Ruben Bryant, Travis Bryant (Letitia), and Chantell Thomas (Frank); her eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren who hold her close in their hearts.
On August 10, 1946, in New Orleans, LA, Polly Lewis and Ruben Kelly joyously welcomed a precious baby girl, Dorothy Mae Bryant, into the world. She embraced her faith in Jesus Christ, dedicating her life to Him. She was baptized at Children of Israel Baptist Church by the late Dr. John B. Davis, Sr., and served the Lord as a choir member. Later, she found a spiritual home at Philadelphia Baptist Church in Hahnville, where she continued her journey of learning and serving God. She faithfully served the Lord as an Usher until illness intervened. She remained steadfast, virtually praising, and glorifying God even beyond the church walls. Every morning after drinking her coffee, she read her bible and praised God.
Dorothy’s educational path unfolded within the St. Charles Parish School System. Dorothy was employed at the Luling Living Center until retirement. Her legacy extended beyond academics, as she became the proud mother of three children: Ruben, Travis, and Chantell. These blessings multiplied into eight beautiful grandchildren: Jasmine (Alonzo II), Jyran, Joel, Jaylon, Mercedes, Tanesha, Taysia, and Tanaya; six great-grandchildren: Elijah, Kennedy, Logan, Alonzo, III, Tayla, and Karter; and step-grandchild, Edward Green, III. She made a promise to her late sister Fannie that she would be there for her daughters Faith and Karen, whom she had loved from the moment she met them.
Dorothy leaves to cherish her precious memories: her sister Barbara Dorsey; nieces and nephews: Karen Mott, Faith (Mark) Williams, Latasha Dorsey, Alvin Lyles, Derrick McCarthy, Ricky, Javell, Jeffrey Stipe; Sabrina P. Ursin, Dedra Barre, Marclette Simon, Rochelle Clark, Roy Jr., Kermit, Benjamin, and Anthony Pierre; and her devoted friends, Annie Nixon and Debra Campbell stand out as steadfast companions.
Awaiting her at heaven’s gates is her lifelong partner, Ervy Thomas, Sr.; her parents and stepfather, Joseph Bryant; her sisters, Fannie B. Williams, Isabella Haydel, and Lucille Fiffie; her brother Eldridge McCarthy; nephews Brandon Woods, Sr., Alvin Mitchell, and Johnell Mott; and nieces Acqunetta and Shevelle Wilson eagerly anticipate her arrival in eternal peace. Dorothy is now dancing, singing, talking, and walking in her “Brand New Home” with the rest of her family. She has no more pain and suffering.
