On July 20, 2023 Donald (Billy) Smith, Sr. was called home to eternal rest at Ochsner Medical Center, Kenner, LA.  Donald was born to the late Peter Smith, Sr. and Geneva Lumar Smith.  He was the husband Marsheila Mitchell Smith and to this union 3 children were born Donald Smith, Jr., Daniel (Gabrielle) Smith, Lamar (K’Shavon)Smith.  2 Grandchildren; Maleyah and Logan Smith. Siblings Enola Grows (Calvin, Jr.), Curtis, Wilfred (Loretta), Harold, Nathaniel, the late Victoria Augusta, William, Peter Jr. and Catherine Farnell. Brother-in-law of Irvin and Ernest Mitchell, Jennifer Johnson (Sanders, Sr.), Kathleen Rainey, the late Nina and Oliska Mitchell.  He was the brother-in-law of Brett Mitchell and the late Alvin "Tart" Mitchell.  Donald was a graduate of West St. John Class of 1981. Donald retired from Avondale Shipyard and St. Charles Parish School System. He was baptized at Historic Bethlehem Baptist Church in Hahnville, LA where he worshipped and became a choir member. 

Relatives and friends of the family, Pastors, Officers and Members of Historic Bethlehem Baptist Church, all neighboring churches and West St. John Class of 1981 are invited to the Celebration of Life Service at 11:00am on Saturday, July 29, 2023 at the Historic Bethlehem Baptist Church, 14989 River Rd., Hahnville, LA  70057. Rev. Rodney L. Johnson, Sr.-Pastor-Officiant.  Visitation 9:00am until time of celebration at the above-named church.  Interment Historic Bethlehem Cemetery, Hahnville, LA.
