His Life Story

Deron Juan Batiste, Sr.

On Wednesday, September 13, 2023, Deron heard the voice of the Lord and entered eternal rest. “Absent from the body and present with the Lord”.

Deron was born on September 6, 1975 to Wanda Batiste and Carl Alexis and reared by Pastor Johnnie B. Magee.

He was educated in St. John the Baptist Parish school system.  He completed his education at Crenshaw High School in Los Angeles, CA.

Deron was formerly married to Kourtney Henderson Batiste, and to this union three children were born, Deron, Jr., Devin and Devvon Batiste, later in life they become the older siblings to Daisha and Dawsyn Batiste.

Deron began his livelihood as a Barber after graduating from Moler Hair School in New Orleans, LA and becoming the owner of Choppa City Barbar Shop in LaPlace, LA.  After some time he found a career as a Lab Tech for Inspector Corporation.  He later went on to become an Agricultural Commodities Grader 7 for the United States Department of Agriculture.  His favorite pastimes were fishing, shooting pool, marksmanship, computer technology and attending movies.

Deron’s Life and memories shall forever be cherished by his parents, Wanda Batiste, Carl Alexis and Pastor Johnnie B. Magee; his children, Deron Batiste, Jr., Devin Batiste, Devvon Batiste, Dawsyn Batiste and Daisha Batiste; his siblings Aaron and Theron Jones, Carl Chaz and Ciji Alexis and Koi Thompson; godchild, Taliyah Jones, also a host of nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and other relatives and friends.

Waiting at heaven’s gate to welcome his home are his grandparents, Elmira and Melvin Batiste, Sr., Great grandparents, Josephine and Wilson Jones, brother Johnel Magee and stepmother Dinah Magee.

Relatives and friends of the family, Pastors, Officers and Members of First Baptist Church and all surrounding churches are invited to a Celebration of Life at 11:00am on Saturday, September 30, 2023 at First Baptist Church, 1244 Magnolia Heights Street, Vacherie, LA  70090. Visitation 9:00am until time of service at the above-named location.  Interment St. John Memorial Gardens, 2205 W. Airline Hwy, LaPlace, LA  70068.  Final Arrangements Entrusted to Patrick H.
