Deola Gautier Duronslet

January 14, 1932 - May 12, 2025

Deola Gautier Duronslet passed away Monday, May 12, 2025, at the age of 93. She was born in Vacherie, Louisiana to Georgina Oubre Gautier and Whitmore Gautier, Sr. Deola was raised on the family farm in Wallace, Louisiana, adjacent to River Road. She learned how to drive a manual stick shift vehicle to help out on the farm. She was the fourth of eight children. Deola met and married O’Neil Duronslet, Sr., and moved to Lucy/Edgard, Louisiana, where she lived for the next 71 years. She was employed as a Paraprofessional for the St. John the Baptist School System. She spent many dedicated years at Leon Godchaux School in Reserve, Louisiana. After 19 years of working in Special Education, she retired to care for her mother. In 1969, Deola became a member of the Knights of Peter Claver Ladies Auxiliary, Ladies of Perpetual Help Court 66, and remained a member until her death. Deola also dedicated many years as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion at St. John the Baptist Church. Along with her husband O’Neil, she spent many years opening the Church in the morning in preparation for Sunday Mass.

Deola leaves to cherish her son O’Neil V. Duronslet, Jr. (Kim), sister, Lois Green, 5 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren. She is survived by a host of nieces, nephews, and godchildren. Deola was preceded in death by her parents, Georgina Oubre Gautier and Whitmore Gautier, Sr., her husband, O’Neil V. Duronslet, Sr., son Gregory Paul Duronslet, daughter Danielle Duronslet, sister Allison Roussel, brothers Perry, Stanford, Whitmore, Larry, and Elwood Gautier (Mary).

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial honoring Deola G. Duronslet at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 17, 2025, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 2349 Highway 18, Edgard, LA 70049. Visitation begins at 8:00 a.m. with recitation of the Rosary at 9:00 a.m.  Interment will follow at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church Cemetery. Final Arrangements Entrusted to Patrick H.
