Cleveland Joseph, Jr., 96, passed away on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at Southeast Louisiana Veterans Home in Reserve, LA, with his daughter, Faye, and granddaughter, Jalish, at his bedside.


Cleveland, also affectionately known as “Son” was born on April 8, 1929, in New Orleans, Louisiana to the late Lovenia Jackson and Cleveland Joseph, Sr. After the death of his father, his mother remarried Charlie Jackson, who raised him as his son along with the help of his grandfather, Edward Joseph, and his aunts and uncles.


Son confessed Christ and was baptized by Rev. Forell Bering, Sr. of Bethlehem Baptist Church. For many years, Son had held many jobs in the community. He was a very hard-working man. He enjoyed his business, C.J. Restaurant and Lounge, and driving his dump truck, “Loud Mouth Lucy.”  He owned three food trucks, driving and selling food in the community from New Orleans to Baton Rouge. He was also the owner and coach of C.J. Women’s Softball Team. Additionally, Son enjoyed working during election time in the St. Charles Parish area.


Son loved helping people when they were in need. He also loved playing Spades with the fellows.


Cleveland leaves to cherish his memory his devoted and loving sons; Brian D. Joseph, Sr., Troy Lilly, Anthony Tyrone Straughter and Charles Smith, his daughters: Karen Lynn Samuels, Sharon Green, and Ingrid Jones. Daughters-in-law, Linda S. Joseph, Michelle Robinson Lilly, Leola Anderson, Lorraine Payne, and Lekesia Parkman. God-children Israel Perry, Jr., and Norman Williams, Jr., and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, as well as an aunt, cousins, and friends.


Cleveland was preceded in death by his parents,Cleveland Joseph, Sr. and Lovenia and Charley Jackson, his son Jeffery “Don” Anderson, Edward Payne, Jr., Sisters, Sophie Williams, and Sadie Parker. Brothers-in-law, Mack Parker and Lonnie Williams, grandchildren, Louis “Snoopy” Green and Patrick Payne, Jr., and nephews Earnest “Baby Lee” Williams.


Relatives and friends of the family, Pastors, officers and members of Bethlehem Baptist Church and all neighboring Churches are invited to the Celebration of Life Services at 11:00am on Tuesday, August 12, 2025 at Bethlehem Baptist Church, 146 E. 20th Street, Reserve, LA 70084. Rev. Dr. Forell Bering, Sr., Pastor-Officiant. Visitation 9:00am until time of service at the above-named Church. Interment Montz Cemetery, Union Street, Montz, LA. Final arrangements entrusted to Patrick H. Sanders Funeral Home & Funeral Directors, LLC. 605 Main Street, Laplace, LA 70068. 985-359-1919. “Providing Care & Comfort is Our Highest Mission.”
