Charles Joseph Lumar entered eternal rest on Thursday, November 14, 2024, age 76. On May 29, 1948, Charles Joseph Lumar, Sr. was born to the late Otis Lumar, Sr., and Ophelia Narcisse Lumar in Edgard, Louisiana.
He graduated from Second Ward High School in 1966 and earned an Elementary Education degree from Southern University and A&M College in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Charles began his career as an educator in the Orleans Parish Public School system and eventually gained the privilege of teaching in his hometown of Edgard. After a meaningful career in education, he chose a new path as an employee in the petrochemical industry and offered over 20 years of dedicated service to the Union Carbide/Dow Chemical Company.
On September 17, 1976, Charles married his life partner, Elaine Wilson, and began a romance for the ages. Their family grew to include two children, Alana and Charles II, whom they showered with love, opportunities, and life lessons that helped them grow into exceptional adults. Charles was a constant supporter and always reminded his children that they were capable of anything.
Charles was ever-present in his community as a softball, basketball, and football coach, and well sought-after referee.
Just as was customary in all things, Charles and his late wife Elaine were baptized together as adults at The Historic Bethlehem Baptist Church. Both remained faithful members until the Lord called them into His presence.
Charles leaves to cherish his memory his children, Alana Lumar and Charles Lumar II (Michelle); sisters, Yolanda Miller (Calvin) and Lorenza Simmons; brother, Vernon Lumar; sisters-in-law, Rosalie Brown (Willie), Ophelia Walker, Donna Meeks, Anita Lumar, and Augustine Lumar; a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends whom he loved dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Otis Lumar, Sr., and Ophelia Narcisse Lumar; his wife, Elaine Lumar; siblings, Claudel Lumar, Sr., Louise Young Bovie, Otis Lumar, Jr., and Joyce Marquez; brothers-in-law Rogers Walker, Webb Simmons, Felix Marquez, and sister-in law Helen Lumar.
