Carla Charles Johnson, born Carla Ann Charles, entered eternal life peacefully on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, at her home in Destrehan, LA after a “short-lived” vigorous battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia.
The late Alvin Mike Charles and Louenda Harding welcomed Carla into the world on December 27, 1960, at Charity Hospital in New Orleans, LA. The Charles family resided in St. Rose, LA. At a young age, Carla accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior. She was baptized by the late Reverend Dell Parker at Greater Good Hope Baptist Church. Carla was a student in the St. Charles Parish Public School District. She was a 1979 graduate of Destrehan High School and a member of the Desty Darlings Dance Team. She earned an associate’s degree in business from Phillips Junior College.
During her 23-year career, Carla worked as a 911 Dispatcher. She began working for the Kenner Police Department in Kenner, LA, before moving to the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office in Luling, LA, in 1996. In 2016, Carla departed from her position as a 911 Dispatcher at the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office after serving 20 years.
Carla leaves behind her three children, Enjolica Johnson, JonNeka Charles Mingo, and Peter Kenneth Johnson, Jr.; her three siblings, Katherine “Pam” Charles, Mike “OC” Charles and Theresa Ann Charles of Englewood, CA. also her twelve grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Relatives and friends of the family, Pastors, Officers and Members of Greater Good Hope Baptist Church, St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office and Destrehan High School Class of 1979 are invited to attend the Commemoration of Life Services at 12:00pm on Saturday, November 16, 2024 at Greater Good Hope Baptist Church, 47 Cathy Street, Norco, LA 70079. Dr. Tyrone Scott, Host Pastor and Dr. Keith Smith, Officiating. Interment Jefferson Memorial Gardens, 11316 River Rd, St. Rose, LA 70087. Visitation 11:00am until the time of service at the above-named church. Final Arrangements Entrusted to Patrick H.
