Brouney Joseph Lewis

April 23, 1945 -  November 1, 2023

On Wednesday, November 1, 2023, the Lord released Brouney Joseph Lewis “Brent” from all of his pain.  He was 78 years old.  He will be greatly missed by his wife, children, grandchildren, siblings, nieces, nephews and by all those who knew him and loved him throughout his life.  He will live on in our hearts FOREVER.

Brouney Joseph Lewis, affectionally known as “Brent” to all of his family and friends was born on April 23,1945 to Nelson Lewis Sr, and Viola Lumar Lewis. He was the beloved husband to Monica Kelly Lewis for 50 years.  He was an amazing and devoted father to Gia Maria Lewis and LeVar Anthony Lewis (Nicondra).  He was the loving, caring, and devoted grandfather to Zuri Anysia Grows, Zendé Aidan Grows and Gage Anthony Lewis. He was a loving and loyal brother to Faye L. Gauthier, Glenda L. Darensbourg (Jerry), Norma L. Louis (Arthur) and Nelson Lewis, Jr.  Brent was the father-in-law to Raymond Grows; Brother-in-law to Nova H. Lewis and Adrian Kelly. He was the Godfather to John Darensbourg, Sr, James Lumar and Shannon Edwards. He was the devoted cousin to Layn Morris who was like a brother to him.

Brent was a 1965 graduate of Second Ward High school.  He went on to become a first-class welder and was employed at Avondale Shipyards for 46 years. He was also one of the original members of the Killona Volunteer Fire Department. He was avid fisherman who could often be found talking smack about his beloved Dallas Cowboys. His favorite pastime of all was working in his garden.  Many times, he was often seen, just standing there, literally watching his garden grow.  He enjoyed sitting outside talking with family, friends, and neighbors.  His greatest joy was spending time with his grandkids, driving them to and from school and making sure they got to practice.

Brent was preceded in death by his parents Nelson Lewis, Sr, and Viola Lumar Lewis; brothers Gary and Spencer Lewis; sisters Deanna L. Mitchell, Donnell L. Favorite and Alice Major; father-in-Law, Andrew Kelly, Jr.; mother-in-law, Carmelite Roublow Kelly; sister-in-law, Valerie K. Borne; brother-in-law, Gregory Kelly; also aunts, uncles, nephews, a niece and other relatives and friends that have passed on to be with the Lord.
