Beverly Howard Boyd

1937 - 2024

Beverly Howard Boyd was born to the late Bennie Howard and Agnes Burks-Williams in New Orleans on August 15, 1937. She grew up in a large family of nine brothers and sisters. Beverly was a lifelong resident of St. Charles Parish, residing in Paradis, Boutte, and Luling. She was baptized in 1946 at the First Baptist Church in Paradis, where she sang in the senior choir and was a member for 37 years.

Beverly graduated from Carver High School in 1955. That same year, she married the apple of her eye, Frank Boyd Jr. of Boutte. Five sons were born from that union: Dwight Orville Boyd, Byron Anthony Boyd, Michael Wayne Boyd, Frank Wendell Boyd, and Glynn Tyree Boyd. Beverly devoted her life to God and her family. In 1983, she joined the Mt. Airy Baptist Church family, where she served for 43 years. Mt. Airy was also home to her boys and husband, who served as the Senior Deacon.

For 20 years, Beverly drove thousands of students to and from school on Bus Number 16. She loved the kids, and they loved her. One former student stated, “She was my lifelong friend. She was such a great lady. She will be missed by all who knew her.” Beverly was outgoing and enjoyed visiting family and friends daily. She was loved by all who had the pleasure of meeting her and could never just walk in and out of Wal-Mart or Winn Dixie without stopping to chat.

Beverly was recognized as a “go-getter” who knew how to get things done in the community. As one Boutte native expressed, “You all had a tremendous mother and leader, more than anyone could imagine. She was a friend to the friendless and an advisor to those who needed wisdom.” In 1983, she was appointed Honorary Assistant District Attorney by Harry J. Morel, Jr., 29th Judicial District Attorney.

Beverly was an original Boutte Trotters softball team member in the 1970s. She played first base and claimed she was as good as Hall of Famer Willie McCovey. She loved her New Orleans Saints and Pelicans. Just before game time, someone in the family would receive a call from Beverly asking, “What channel is the game on?"

The Lord thought Beverly was so amazing that he sent his angels for her on Tuesday, June 4, 2024. The Master replied, “Well done, my good and faithful servant.”

Beverly's legacy lives on, as she is survived by her four sons, Byron (Agnes), Michael, Frank (Lynell), and Glynn. She also has ten grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. She was also the Godmother to Ralph White, Carolyn Winston, and Debra Lynn Mitchell.

She leaves behind one sister, Maudie McCoy, four sisters-in-law, Dorothy Boyd, Myrtle Boyd, Catherine Boyd, and Joyce Jefferson, one brother-in-law, Elvin Boyd, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Beverly was preceded in death by her parents Bennie Howard and Agnes Burks-Williams; husband, Frank Boyd, Jr., son, Dwight O. Boyd, and daughter-in-law, Nancy Parker; her siblings Mildred Sumler, Walter Howard, Helen Williams, Jackie White, Haywood Burks, Jr., Alma Lee Lewis, Virginia Robinson, Olevia Taylor, A.D. Henderson, Raymond and Rayard Burks and Minnie Burks.

Relatives and friends of the family, Pastors, Officers and Members of Mt. Airy Baptist Church, and all neighboring Churches are invited to a Celebration of Life Service at 11:00am on Monday, June 10, 2024, at Mt. Airy Baptist Church, 13635 Old Spanish Trail, Boutte, LA  70039.  Visitation 9:00am until time of Service at the above-named church.  Interment Mt.
