Mrs. Bernice Augillard Douglas
January 17, 1947- February 18, 2025
Bernice A. Douglas; 78, affectionately known as Momma, Maw-Maw and Ma by her children and grandchildren passed away peacefully on February 18, 2025. She was born at Charity Hospital in New Orleans, LA to the late John and Isabella Augillard. She was reared by her parents and the late Joe Cooper in the tight knit family community of New Sarpy, LA where she was well known and loved by many.
Bernice was strong in her faith and trusted in God. She was baptized at St. Matthew Baptist Church in New Sarpy, LA at an early age by the late Pastor L. Snowden. She was an active member of the adult choir until her health declined. She was educated in the St. Charles Parish School System, where she attended Bethune High School and later went on to work for the St. Charles Parish School System. She faithfully worked at St. Charles Parish Counsel of Aging, and was an Election Day Commissioner.
On June 24, 1967 she married in holy matrimony to Isiah Douglas, Jr. and to this union was born six (6) beautiful children: Theresa (Wilfred) Smothers, Destrehan, LA; Penny (Kim) Henry, Laplace, LA; Isiah (Tonja) Douglas, III, Jacksonville FL; Rewa Douglas, Lake Charles, LA; and twin sons who predeceased her.
She leaves to mourn her siblings: Mary (Jerome) Eugene; Barbara Hill; Irene Augillard; Ernest Augillard; Stacie (Michael) Bell; and Sharlene (Theodore) Sanders. She has 11 Grandchildren: Wilfred Jr., Whitnie, Ireneisha, Wynrick, Amber, Corey, Trenice, Taylor, Ayana, Ashia and Jasmine; 14 great grandchildren; 1 Great aunt, Theresa Howard; 1 Godchild, Troy Payne; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

She was preceded in death by: sister Johnnie Mae Evers; brothers: John, Emile and Wayne Augillard; grandmother, Rena Hubbard; grandfather, Isreal Hubbard; aunts: Harriet Hubbard and Leola Washington; uncle: Alexander Washington; sisters-in-law: Grace Lewis, Willie Lee Miller, Leona Patterson, Mary Lee Joseph, Beulah Douglas, Myrtle, Inez and Pearl; brother-in laws: Joseph Douglas, Roosevelt Douglas, Milton Douglas and Leroy Hill.
Relatives and friends of the family, Pastors, Officers and members of St. Matthew Baptist Church and all neighboring Churches are invited to the Celebration of Life Service at 11:00am on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at St. Matthew Baptist Church, 604 E. S. Johnson Street, New Sarpy, LA 70078. Bishop Otis Kenner II, Fresh Faith Worship Center-Officiating. Visitation 9:00am until time of Service.
