Audrey Lee (Brown) Shorts Obituary

Audrey Lee Brown Shorts

1948 - 2024

On December 22, 2024, at Ochsner Hospital in Kenner, Louisiana, Audrey heard the Master’s call: “My child, your work on earth is done. Come home, my good and faithful servant.”

On September 12, 1948, in New Orleans, Louisiana, the late Audrey Lee Brown Shorts was born to the late Melvin and Alberta Williams Brown of Montz. She was one of four beautiful daughters.  Audrey, along with her sisters Carolyn, Linda, and Mary Frances, grew up in the tight-knit community of Montz. The sisters shared a special bond that exemplified the strength of family. Audrey attended Bethune High School in Norco, where she graduated in 1966. After graduation, she moved to Chicago and joined the Job Corps. She later relocated to Battle Creek, Michigan, where she completed her studies, earning a degree in Business Administration. Upon returning home, Audrey worked as a teacher’s assistant in St. Charles Parish for several years.

At an early age, Audrey was baptized by the late Rev. Hilton Mitchell at Providence Baptist Church in Montz. She later served faithfully under the leadership of Rev. Vernal Braud. Audrey was a dedicated choir member, soloist, and the President of the Pastor’s Aide Committee. She loved singing and sharing her faith, often speaking passionately about God, and studying His word. Audrey was known for her willingness to lend a helping hand wherever needed. Her warm personality left an unforgettable impression on everyone she met.

Audrey found love and companionship with the late Robert Shorts of New Sarpy, whom she married. Together, they built a life in LaPlace, where they welcomed their beloved son, Tramane M. Shorts. Audrey adored her son and cherished her role as a mother.

Before her health began to decline, Audrey was vibrant and full of life, often traveling and staying active well into the night. She loved working in her yard and had a deep affection for animals.

Audrey was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Shorts; her parents, Melvin, and Alberta Brown; and her sisters, Carolyn Ann Brown, and Linda Rose Brown Augillard.

She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted son, Tramane M. Shorts; her loving sister, Mary Francis Brown Breaux of LaPlace; her brothers-in-law, Harold Lee Breaux and Olivier Augillard Sr. of LaPlace, Elbert Shorts, and Cleveland “Son” Joseph; her sister-in-law, Lois Shorts; two beloved godsons, Joseph Lee Williams of Montz and Nyron Breaux of LaPlace; and three devoted friends, Audrey Williams Johnson, Betty Francis Collins, and Gladys Banks. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family members, and friends, along with the entire Montz community.
