The Life of Deaconess Monica Ann Williams

“The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?”

Psalm 27:1

            On Wednesday, July 15, 2026, Sis. Monica Ann Williams, “Moni,” a servant of God, transitioned to her heavenly home. Sis. Monica Williams was born on October 2, 1955, in New Orleans, Louisiana to the union of the late Preston and Doris Williams. She was the eldest of five girls: Katherine Williams, Charmaine Williams, Lisa Williams Johnson and Trina Williams Brignac.

            She gave her life to the Lord and accepted Christ as her personal savior and was baptized at Bell Baptist Church in Luling, LA at an early age by late Rev. Amos Sumler. She served as a deaconess at the Historic Bell Baptist Church until the Lord called her home.

            Sis. Monica Williams, Moni, as she was affectionately known, became the matriarch of the family after the passing of her parents, Preston and Doris Williams. She was the proud and devoted big sister to Katherine Williams, Charmaine Williams, Lisa Williams Johnson (Kenneth) and Trina Williams Brignac. Sis. Monica was the loving aunt to Trae Williams, Cherrelle Williams Onuoha (Victor), John Brignac, Jr., Trejon Brignac, Dominique Major, Akira Zeringue, Akendra Johnson and the late Jemyra Johnson. She was a kindhearted great aunt to Ja’Miyah, Jeremiah and Jailey Brignac, Rah’saan Major, Aria Onuoha and her angel great niece and nephews Obasi, Rain and Ezra Onuoha.

            Moni attended Hahnville High School and was a graduate of the Class of 1973. She enjoyed cooking, baking and spending time with her family and friends at gatherings.  She was very passionate about decorating the house for the holidays. Her favorite pastime was engaging in long conversations on the phone with her longtime college friend, Salyria, for hours. She loved praising the Lord as a Deaconess at the Historic Bell Baptist Church.

            Moni, leaves a legacy of memories to be cherished by her sisters: Katherine, Charmaine, Lisa and Trina; nieces and nephews: Trae, Cherrelle (Victor), John, Jr., Trejon, Dominique, Akira and Akendra; great nieces and nephews: Ja’Miyah, Jailey, Jeremiah, Rahsaan and Aria; aunts: Shirley Green, Patricia Patterson, Joyce Clark and Vivian Clark; Uncle Ernest Patterson, Jr.; Godsister Barbara Clement-Wilson; Godchildren: Trae Williams, Sidney Mott, IV, Aaron Williams and Zaria Scott; Brother-in-law Kenneth Johnson; Devoted family and friend: Sharon Jackson, Jacklin White, and Salyria Williams. She also leaves to cherish fond memories with a host of family and friends.

            Moni was preceded in death by her parents, Preston and Doris Williams; grandmothers: Lista Guilfore and Rebecca Williams; grandfathers: Purnell Clark and Thomas Williams; niece Jemyra Johnson and angel great niece and nephews Obasi, Rain and Ezra Onuoha. Although, she was loved by many, God loved her best.

“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.”

Relatives and friends of the family, Pastors, officers and members of the Historic Bell Baptist Church and all neighboring Churches are invited to the Celebration of Life Services at 11:00am on Monday, July 27, 2026, at the Historic Bell Baptist Church, 300 Hackberry Street, Luling, LA 70070.  Rev. Rodney L. Johnson-Officiating.  Visitation from 9:00am until the time of service at the above-named Church.  Interment St. Mary Cemetery, Paul Maillard Rd, Luling, LA.  Final Arrangements entrusted to Patrick H.
